The Opportunity:

UCF IT is looking to hire an AI Solutions Engineer II. This position partners with university departments and the AI acceleration and process improvement team to identify business needs, gather requirements, and design, prototype, build, and validate AI-enabled solutions on approved enterprise platforms. The role owns the early solution life cycle from discovery through initial build, testing, and transition to the appropriate AI development, application, or operational support teams.

Classification Title: Systems Engineer II

Responsibilities:

  • Elicits, analyzes, prioritizes, and documents business, functional, data, integration, security, and operational requirements. Translates requirements into solution concepts, technical specifications, acceptance criteria, and build plans using approved AI, automation, integration, and low-code platforms. Creates solution designs, prototypes, workflow models, integration approaches, and data flow designs; performs hands-on configuration to prove feasibility; and validates designs with stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Collaborates with academic, administrative, research, and technology departments to understand business objectives, challenges, and service needs. Facilitates discovery sessions, interviews, and workshops with process owners, subject matter experts, and technical teams, and documents current-state and future-state processes using process maps, workflows, use cases, and supporting narratives.
  • Identifies inefficiencies, manual activities, control gaps, and opportunities to simplify or automate work. Recommends process and technology improvements that align with university priorities, policies, accessibility standards, and customer needs.
  • Builds, configures, and implements initial AI, automation, workflow, integration, and reporting solutions in partnership with AI developers, application, data, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and identity management teams, and vendors. Serves as the customer-facing solution engineer from planning and design through testing and deployment readiness, tracking dependencies, decisions, risks, and issues across participating teams.
  • Designs and implements assistants, agents, automations, integrations, and other AI-enabled capabilities with the AI development team and enterprise architects. Evaluates when AI, automation, low-code, integration, or process changes are appropriate; uses trusted data sources with proper access controls; addresses privacy, cybersecurity, accessibility, records management, and responsible AI requirements; and builds prototypes and proofs of concept that establish a clear path to production.
  • Leads user acceptance testing, implementation readiness, documentation, knowledge transfer, training coordination, and formal transition of solutions to AI development, application, or operations teams for day-to-day support.
  • Maintains solution documentation, process maps, requirement records, decision logs, and knowledge articles. Provides status updates, presentations, and recommendations to technical and nontechnical audiences; monitors implemented solutions and gathers feedback to drive refinement and adoption; and participates in standards development and communities of practice for enterprise AI and automation services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 6 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience gathering, analyzing, and documenting business, functional, technical, data, and integration requirements for enterprise technology, automation, or digital transformation initiatives.
  • Experience facilitating discovery sessions, business process reviews, workshops, and stakeholder interviews, with the ability to document current-state and future-state workflows, process maps, use cases, and business requirements.
  • Knowledge of AI, workflow automation, low-code/no-code platforms, system integrations, and digital process improvement methodologies, including the ability to evaluate and recommend technology-based solutions to business challenges.
  • Experience designing, configuring, implementing, or supporting business applications, automation solutions, integrations, dashboards, or AI-enabled services in collaboration with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects or initiatives simultaneously, including coordinating testing activities, tracking risks and dependencies, facilitating issue resolution, and supporting implementation readiness and deployment efforts.
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations, training materials, user documentation, knowledge articles, and executive-level recommendations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
