Formatting risks

  • Dates: “2022 to now” is hard to parse. Use “2022 – Present” or “03/2022 – Present”.
  • No Education section. Many ATS filters look for one; add it even if short.
  • Check your file: tables, two columns, text boxes, and contact details in the page header often break parsing. We can't see those in pasted text.
  • Standard section headings (Summary, Experience, Skills).

What ATS software looks for

An applicant tracking system (ATS) turns your résumé into fields: contact details, job titles, dates, skills. Recruiters then search and filter those fields. If the parser misreads your layout, or your résumé never uses the words the posting uses, you can be filtered out before anyone reads it.

Two things help most. Keywords: use the posting's own terms for skills and tools you really have, like “TypeScript” rather than only “JS”. Plain formatting: one column, standard section headings, contact details in the body instead of the page header, and dates in one consistent format.

This checker compares your text with the posting, lists the keywords you cover and miss, and flags formatting that commonly breaks parsing. Since you paste text, it can't see fonts or images in your file, so it asks about the risky ones.

How it works

1

Paste the posting

Its keywords are what you're checked against.

Questions

Can an ATS really reject my résumé?

Most don't reject on their own, but recruiters filter by keywords and parsed fields. A résumé that parses badly or misses key terms can drop out of those searches.

Is it really free?

Yes. Each tool gives you one free run, with no sign-up and no credit card. After that, a free JobCubby account gives you 15 AI generations a month.

Do you store my résumé or the job description?

No. JobCubby doesn't store the text you paste here. It is sent to our AI provider only to produce your result, and JobCubby doesn't keep it. We keep a count of runs (without your text) so each tool stays one free try.

Why can't I upload my PDF?

The free checker reads pasted text only. That covers keywords well. For layout, it flags the patterns that most often break parsing and asks you to check your file for them.

Why do you check that I'm human?

The free tools run on real AI, so we use Cloudflare Turnstile to keep bots from using them up. It usually passes on its own without a puzzle.
