About the role

The Senior Business Analyst will structure complex business needs and contribute to backlog refinement within a large-scale, multi-team agile program. They are responsible for documenting requirements, business rules, and acceptance criteria while identifying impacts across business processes.

What they look for

Business Analysis Agile Methodology Claims Automation Individual Insurance Backlog Refinement Requirement Documentation Impact Analysis Stakeholder Management User Stories Acceptance Criteria UAT Test Scenarios Process Mapping Matrixed Environment Analytical Depth

Requirements

Candidates must have formal experience as a Senior Business Analyst with a proven track record of completing multi-team projects in an agile environment. A strong background in individual insurance is required, along with the ability to work autonomously and challenge stakeholder requirements.

Full description

Mandate Overview:

  • The client is seeking a senior business analyst capable of

operating autonomously within a multi-year program of approximately $12M over 3 years in individual insurance, already underway. The environment is agile, matrixed, multi-team, and evolving: stakeholders are not always identified, and the individual must progressively structure a complex need without being told how to proceed.

  • The client's top requirement is business understanding: the

individual must be able to explain what they document (impacts by business area, rationale behind a business rule), challenge the responses received rather than simply recording them, and escalate as soon as an issue blocks their progress.

  • The role is distinct from the PO, who retains scope

decisions at the story level, and the PM, who retains them at the feature level: the BA contributes to the backlog at both levels without owning the decisions. A background in individual insurance (life, health, disability, annuities) accelerates onboarding, and knowledge of claims remains an asset, fully met in individual insurance (disability, death, critical illness) and partially met in property and casualty insurance.

  • The manager herself comes from a business analysis

background and evaluates analytical depth during interviews: each candidate must be able to demonstrate at least one initiative carried through to completion.

  • Ideal candidate: a senior business analyst with formal BA

mandates, including at least one multi-team program in an agile environment, capable of describing a recent initiative in detail: impacts identified, questions asked to determine those impacts, issues escalated, and deliverables completed through approval. Experience in individual insurance or claims accelerates onboarding but is not a disqualifying factor.

Requirements

Required:

  • Formal Senior BA role, with documented BA deliverables
  • Quickly understand a complex business need, structure it,

and progressively deepen the analysis

  • Produce just enough analysis, at the right time, to support

frequent and incremental delivery

  • Analyze and document requirements, features, business rules,

and acceptance criteria

  • Identify impacts on business processes and stakeholders
  • Contribute to backlog refinement with the PO and PM, at both

levels (features and stories)

  • Ability to work autonomously in agile, product, matrixed,

and ambiguous environments

  • Experience on large-scale multi-team programs or projects
  • Contribute to test scenarios and UAT

Preferred:

  • Industry background in individual or personal insurance

(life, health, disability, annuities)

  • Ability to quickly learn a domain and build credibility with

stakeholders

Asset:

  • Knowledge of claims, ideally in individual insurance

(disability, death, critical illness)

Profiles to Exclude:

  • Profile

whose insurance experience is limited to property and casualty insurance (auto, home), without exposure to individual or life insurance.

  • Profile

with years since a first IT role, where the initial years were in business support, coordination, or functional expert roles, without formally documented BA assignments.

  • Profile

whose analysis experience has been performed as a PO or PM, without full-fledged business analyst assignments.

  • Profile

limited to targeted projects (migration, isolated implementation), without exposure to a large multi-team program.

  • Profile

without documented practice in writing user stories and managing a backlog in an agile context (features, stories, acceptance criteria).

  • Profile

whose analysis is limited to gathering and recording information (templates, reports), without demonstrated responsibility for impact analysis.

  • Profile

showing BA deliverables without an example of a project carried through to completion or approval.
