POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Project Manager (SPM) is a senior member of the Project Management Office (PMO) responsible for leading a high-volume portfolio of concurrent client-facing technology, infrastructure, and professional services projects with varying complexity, priority, risk, and maturity. Operating in a fast-paced delivery environment, the SPM rapidly assesses priorities, shifts focus as business needs change and maintains consistent governance and client communication without slowing execution. The role coordinates scope, delivery planning, resources, risk, budgets, milestones, recovery efforts, and stakeholder reporting while driving accountability across cross-functional teams and ensuring business outcomes.

This position reports to the PMO Manager or designated Service Delivery leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED.

CLIENT, DELIVERY, AND STAKEHOLDER OWNERSHIP:

  • Serves as the primary project contact for assigned customers and internal stakeholders, ensuring project expectations, responsibilities, and next steps are clearly communicated.
  • Maintains alignment between approved scope, delivery commitments, customer priorities, and internal execution plans throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Leads customer-facing project meetings, prepares clear status updates, documents decisions, and ensures risks, issues, and action items are communicated with the appropriate urgency.
  • Partners with customers during project initiation to confirm business objectives, success criteria, communication cadence, escalation paths, and decision-making ownership.
  • Builds confidence with clients and internal teams by providing transparency, anticipating impacts, and driving follow-through across all assigned workstreams.
  • Ensures project closure includes customer acceptance, final documentation, transition readiness, and lessons learned.

FINANCIAL, RESOURCE, AND PMO GOVERNANCE ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Manages a high-volume portfolio of concurrent projects, balancing oversight across engagements rather than addressing each project in isolation.
  • Continuously evaluates priorities based on customer impact, contractual commitments, revenue, resource availability, risk, and milestone urgency.
  • Identifies projects requiring recovery, escalation, leadership intervention, or additional resources and recommends practical corrective actions.
  • Maintains accurate portfolio reporting covering overall health, upcoming milestones, financial exposure, resource conflicts, and aging action items.
  • Uses standardized tools, templates, governance checkpoints, and repeatable practices to manage volume efficiently while applying judgment when exceptions are warranted.
  • Monitors financial health, resource capacity, backlog, scope changes, billing readiness, and delivery risks to support timely decisions and leadership forecasting.

KEY PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

  • Maintains timely, accurate, and client-ready system data, project plans, status reports, RAID logs, action trackers, financial records, and executive summaries.
  • Establishes a consistent cadence for meetings, reporting, decisions, and follow-up while sustaining schedule, milestone, and stakeholder accountability.
  • Independently triages competing priorities, distinguishes urgent issues from routine activity, and escalates based on business impact without waiting for management direction.
  • Applies strong personal organization and task-management practices and delegates effectively to project coordinators or supporting resources.
  • Contributes to PMO maturity through process adoption, reporting consistency, lessons learned, scalable practices, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, information technology, project management, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • 7+ years of progressive project management experience, including leadership of complex IT infrastructure, technology deployment, or professional services projects.
  • Demonstrated success managing a high-volume portfolio of concurrent client-facing projects while maintaining schedule, financial, documentation, reporting, risk, and stakeholder-management standards.
  • Strong leadership, facilitation, organization, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using portfolio and project management tools to manage schedules, tasks, reporting, resource coordination, and project documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, SharePoint, Teams, Smartsheet, and related collaboration/reporting tools.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience delivering IT infrastructure, networking, security, cloud, data center, endpoint, or managed services projects in a professional services or systems integration environment, including working knowledge of Cisco products or comparable technologies central to the delivered solutions.
  • PMP, PMI-ACP, Agile, Scrum, ITIL, or equivalent project delivery certification preferred; experience with Lucidchart, Visio, or other process and delivery visualization tools is a plus.

  • Builds trusted relationships while independently prioritizing portfolio demands, delegating effectively, and guiding project coordinators and junior project managers.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, accountability, attention to detail, conflict resolution, disciplined organization, and consistent use of scalable processes while adapting communication and oversight to each project’s needs.

TRAVEL: This role may be performed remotely or in a hybrid capacity based on business needs. Client-site travel may be required for project kickoffs, discovery sessions, critical milestones, escalations, cutovers, or other delivery activities. Travel expectations will vary based on client location, project complexity, and delivery requirements.
