We're looking for a Data Engineer to join our established Data & Analytics team and help maintain, optimise and evolve Heartland's enterprise data platform.
This is an ideal opportunity for a Data Engineer who enjoys the balance of business-as-usual (BAU) delivery, operational excellence, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement, while also contributing to strategic data initiatives.
What you'll do
As a Data Engineer, you'll be responsible for ensuring Heartland's data platforms, pipelines and integrations are reliable, scalable and support the needs of the wider business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting and maintaining production data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
- Monitoring, troubleshooting and resolving data issues within agreed service levels.
- Managing BAU data engineering activities to ensure high availability, data integrity and platform performance.
- Developing and enhancing data integration solutions across multiple systems and platforms.
- Working closely with Data Analysts, Data Scientists, BI Developers and business stakeholders to deliver trusted data solutions.
- Optimising data models, data processing performance and storage efficiency.
- Supporting regulatory, risk, finance and operational reporting requirements through high-quality data delivery.
- Implementing robust testing, monitoring and data quality controls.
- Contributing to data platform enhancements, automation initiatives and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Maintaining technical documentation, operational procedures and support processes.
- Participating in incident management, root cause analysis and problem resolution activities.
- Supporting cloud-based data platform initiatives and future-state architecture improvements.
What you'll bring
We're interested in hearing from Data Engineers who are technically strong, curious and enjoy solving complex data problems.
Ideally you'll have:
- Experience in a Data Engineering, Data Warehouse or Analytics Engineering role.
- Strong SQL development skills.
- Experience building and supporting ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Exposure to cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Databricks or similar technologies.
- Experience working with data integration, transformation and orchestration tools.
- Knowledge of data modelling, data governance and data quality principles.
- Understanding of DevOps, CI/CD and release management practices.
- Experience supporting production environments and resolving operational issues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- A collaborative approach and desire to continually improve processes and platforms.
Bonus points if you have
- Experience within banking, financial services or a regulated environment.
- Knowledge of Azure cloud services.
- Experience with Python, Spark or data automation frameworks.
- Exposure to Power BI or enterprise reporting environments.
- Experience working with large-scale customer and transactional data sets.
