Operations Project Manager

Lewiston, ME | $105,000–$130,000/year | Full-Time | Benefits Starting Day One

Lead the Projects That Move Manufacturing Forward

Want to see the projects you lead become equipment, processes, and capabilities operating on a real manufacturing floor?

Elmet Technologies is hiring an Operations Project Manager for our Lewiston, Maine facility. Reporting to the Director of Operations, you’ll lead complex technical and capital projects from initial concept through engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning, qualification, and production start-up.

Your projects may include major capital investments, new and modified manufacturing equipment, facility infrastructure, and new product or process development. This is a hands-on project leadership role for an engineer who can combine technical problem-solving with disciplined project execution. You’ll work directly with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, contractors, and equipment vendors to turn plans into working manufacturing solutions—safely, on schedule, and within budget.

What’s In It for You

  • $105,000–$130,000 annual salary
  • Benefits starting Day One, including medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Tuition assistance
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Opportunity to lead high-impact capital and technical projects from concept through production start-up
  • Direct influence on manufacturing capacity, equipment capability, reliability, and process efficiency
  • Close collaboration with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and senior leadership
  • Opportunity to support advanced manufacturing serving aerospace, defense, semiconductor, energy, and other demanding industries

What You’ll Do

You’ll own technical and capital projects throughout their lifecycle, bringing together engineering, manufacturing, contractors, vendors, budgets, schedules, and resources to deliver successful outcomes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead technical and capital projects from initial concept and engineering through procurement, installation, commissioning, qualification, and start-up
  • Develop project scopes, engineering requirements, equipment specifications, layouts, process flows, schedules, budgets, and resource plans
  • Manage procurement of equipment, materials, engineering services, and contractors while monitoring cost, quality, delivery, and project timelines
  • Lead the design, installation, and modification of manufacturing equipment and facility systems
  • Support plant systems including HVAC, compressed air, boilers, chillers, electrical infrastructure, pumps, transformers, and other manufacturing infrastructure
  • Coordinate contractors, vendors, Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Quality, and other stakeholders throughout project execution
  • Lead APQP activities supporting new product and equipment launches
  • Validate new and modified equipment through commissioning and product qualification
  • Identify manufacturing bottlenecks and develop solutions that improve capacity and operational performance
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to increase throughput, improve yield, reduce waste, and improve process efficiency
  • Manage multiple complex projects while maintaining clear communication with employees, leadership, contractors, and vendors

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role goes beyond completing a project plan. You’ll be responsible for delivering improvements that work in the manufacturing environment and produce measurable results.

That means:

  • Capital and technical projects are delivered safely, on time, within established scope, and within budget
  • New and modified equipment is successfully installed, commissioned, and qualified
  • Manufacturing capacity, reliability, throughput, and process performance improve
  • Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, contractors, and vendors remain aligned throughout project execution
  • Contractors, project resources, schedules, and capital investments are managed effectively
  • New equipment and processes transition smoothly into production
  • Projects produce measurable improvements in yield, waste reduction, and operational efficiency

Requirements

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for an engineer who understands both the technical and execution sides of manufacturing projects.

You’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • 3–7 years of project management experience within an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Experience managing capital equipment, facility, or manufacturing process projects
  • Strong understanding of heat transfer, metallurgy, materials processing, or related industrial processes
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Understanding of OSHA, NEC, NFPA, IBC, and other applicable industrial safety and engineering standards
  • Ability to interpret process, instrumentation, electrical, and wiring diagrams
  • Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, and PLC-controlled equipment
  • Strong project planning, organization, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate effectively with manufacturing employees, leadership, contractors, equipment suppliers, and other external partners

A Hands-On Manufacturing Environment

This is not a project management role where success happens entirely from behind a desk.

You’ll work directly with manufacturing teams, equipment, facility systems, contractors, and vendors as projects move from engineering concepts to installed and operating solutions.

One day may involve reviewing specifications or project schedules; another may put you on the manufacturing floor troubleshooting an installation, coordinating contractors, evaluating equipment performance, or working with Operations and Quality during commissioning.

You’ll be expected to understand both the project plan and what is actually happening in the plant.
