About This Role Technical Writers in Electronic Systems (ES) support the development of technical manuals that ensure the safe and efficient installation, operation, and maintenance of complex equipment. As a Level II Technical Writer, you will work under the guidance of senior writers and engineering staff to develop accurate, compliant, and user‑focused technical documentation for a variety of ES products.
Responsibilities
Assist with analysis of engineering data and drawings
- Review engineering and technical data, under direction, to identify information needed for technical manual development.
- Collaborate with the Logistics Product Data (LPD) team to obtain procedural details and task analysis outputs that inform content development.
Support development of technical manual content
- Develop assigned sections of technical manuals, including equipment descriptions, basic theory of operation, operator tasks, and maintenance procedures.
- Create content in MS Word for page‑based manuals and in XML using WebX UltraAuthor, Arbortext, or EAGLE Publishing System as assigned.
- Prepare and edit technical illustrations with support from senior writers and CAD/illustration tools such as NX and Corel.
Perform edits and ensure compliance under supervision
- Complete edits for accuracy, formatting, and compliance with applicable specifications and standards.
- Work closely with the Lead Writer to ensure assigned tasks meet program requirements and established timelines.
- Participate in Integrated Product Team (IPT) meetings to gather information relevant to assigned publication tasks.
Participate in internal and external reviews
- Support in‑process quality reviews, validation events, and customer review conferences by performing assigned procedures and incorporating feedback.
- Coordinate with senior writers and support personnel during review cycles to ensure accuracy and completeness of assigned content.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field preferred or minimum 2-4 years equivalent work experience.
- Experience developing installation, operation, or maintenance procedures is a plus.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
- Self‑motivated and able to work independently on assigned tasks with guidance.
- Ability to gather, analyze, and summarize data.
- Comfortable working with cross‑functional teams including Program Management, Systems Engineering, Specialty Engineering, LPD, and Training.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing requirements.
- Active Secret Security Clearance preferred; ability to obtain required.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience using XML technical publication tools such as WebX UltraAuthor, PTC Arbortext, or EAGLE Publishing Suite.
- Military or field service experience.
- Familiarity with S1000D or MIL‑STD‑40051 technical publications.
- Experience working with LPD and Provisioning.
- Product support or system knowledge of Unmanned Systems, Weapon Systems, or Electronic Systems.
