Cloud Systems Administrator Skill Level 2

Wyetech is seeking a Cloud Systems Administrator Skill Level 2 to support large-scale, cloud-based repositories used by thousands of mission users in Annapolis Junction, MD. This position supports mission-critical systems across the Intelligence Community in a fast-paced operational environment where system performance, reliability, availability, and security are essential.

The selected candidate will monitor and maintain large-scale cloud and distributed-computing environments, troubleshoot complex system and network issues, administer Linux systems, support Hadoop and Accumulo clusters, develop automation scripts, and collaborate across engineering and infrastructure teams to ensure reliable mission operations.

What You’ll Do:

  • Monitor system health and performance across large-scale cloud-based environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system, network, infrastructure, and data-flow issues in real time.
  • Support and maintain large-scale Hadoop and Accumulo clusters and other distributed systems.
  • Perform Linux systems administration in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Develop and maintain automation and administrative scripts using Bash and/or Python.
  • Execute system patching, upgrades, configuration management, and routine maintenance.
  • Support distributed storage systems and ensure system availability and data integrity.
  • Interface with hardware, network, infrastructure, and engineering teams to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Administer user accounts, groups, permissions, and access controls.
  • Ensure applicable system-security requirements are implemented and maintained.
  • Participate in engineering discussions and continuous system-improvement efforts.
  • Provide after-hours and on-call operational support as required.
  • Work independently on complex technical tasks while collaborating within a mission-focused team environment.
  • Assist with technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and training of junior technical resources.

Key Technologies & Skills:

  • Linux Systems Administration: Red Hat, CentOS, or similar Linux environments.
  • Big Data Platforms: Hadoop, Accumulo, and other large distributed systems.
  • Scripting & Automation: Bash, Python, and/or Perl.
  • Configuration Management: Puppet, Salt, Ansible, or similar technologies.
  • Cloud Technologies: AWS and other cloud/distributed-computing platforms.
  • Containers & Orchestration: Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Monitoring & Operations: Troubleshooting system alerts, outages, performance issues, and operational incidents.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work across multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Mission Operations: Comfortable operating in a high-tempo, continuously evolving environment.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience combinations:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in software development or engineering; OR
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in software development or engineering; OR
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in software development or engineering in lieu of a degree.
  • Qualifying experience must include areas such as requirements analysis, software development, installation, evaluation, enhancement, maintenance, or problem diagnosis and resolution.
  • Degrees in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems, Engineering, or a similar technical discipline will be considered.
  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting Linux-based systems.
  • Experience supporting large-scale distributed systems and cloud-computing environments.
  • Ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex operational issues.
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level I or higher certification, preferably Security+, is required.
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance with current polygraph is required.

Large-Scale Systems Experience:

  • Experience performing system administration and monitoring of large distributed systems consisting of multiple clusters.
  • Experience supporting clustered environments implemented across multiple racks and large numbers of nodes.
  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting large-scale cloud-computing systems.
  • Familiarity with distributed storage and retrieval technologies such as Hadoop, Cassandra, Scality, Swift, Gluster, Lustre, GPFS, Amazon S3, or comparable big-data/high-performance computing technologies.
  • Experience with configuration-management technologies such as Puppet, Salt, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of core Linux operating-system components and administration.
  • Experience managing user and group accounts and supporting technologies such as LDAP, DHCP, DNS, and TFTP.

Additional Desired Technical Experience:

  • Advanced knowledge of SSH tunneling and protocols, including dynamic SOCKS proxies and SSH-based utilities.
  • Understanding of networking concepts including VLANs, port-channel bonding, and Layer 2/Layer 3 switching.
  • Familiarity with software load balancers used in large-scale web-service environments, including HAProxy and NGINX.
  • Experience with Kubernetes orchestration services and Docker containers/images.
  • Experience with log aggregation, monitoring, and search technologies such as Elasticsearch, Logstash, Filebeat, Grafana, and rsyslog.
  • Experience with Linux PXE/network provisioning, Kickstart configurations, RAID utilities, TFTP images, and related provisioning technologies.
  • Experience remotely accessing and troubleshooting systems for hardware diagnosis and repair.
  • Familiarity with OpenSSL and Java keystore management.

Desired Certifications – One of the Following:

  • AWS Certified Developer – Associate
  • AWS DevOps Engineer – Professional
  • Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)

Clearance & Certification Requirements:

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance with current polygraph is required.
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level I or higher certification, preferably Security+, is required.

Salary Range: $75.67 to $102.47 per hour

Hourly pay rates listed for this position serve as a general guideline and are not a guarantee of compensation. Compensation will vary dependent upon factors including but not limited to: Government contract rates; education; relevant prior work experience, knowledge, skills, and competencies; certifications, and geographic location. Hourly pay rates reflect the pre-benefit gross wage amounts.
