Full description

Klarna, briefly

At Klarna, we’re building an everyday finance network, helping over 120 million consumers across 26 countries save time and money, and worry less about their finances. Working here means taking on problems most companies never get to solve, and being hands-on enough that the interesting part of the work lands with you, not someone else — you’ll build with AI, not watch it happen. This is the stretch zone. Come find out what you’re capable of.

About the role

Klarna Bank AB is authorised in Sweden and operates in other EU markets through branches. That means Klarna answers to Finansinspektionen (FI), our home regulator, and to the host regulators in each of those markets, and what we tell one of them has to match what we tell the others. You’ll join the Regulatory Interactions team in Stockholm, work alongside a senior colleague who leads these supervisor relationships, and take on part of that portfolio. You’ll report to the Global Lead, Regulatory Interactions. The position also has a build side: you’ll design tools with AI and upgrade the processes the team already runs. Within your first year, those tools and processes should be in everyday use across the team, and you should be the person maintaining them. The brief moves with the team’s priorities rather than following a fixed task list.

What you’ll do

  • You’ll handle regulator correspondence for your part of the portfolio, answering each request accurately and on time.
  • You’ll log every interaction, so Klarna holds a complete record of what we have said and when.
  • You’ll prepare material for submissions and supervisory meetings, in Swedish where the matter calls for it.
  • You’ll keep the team’s registers current: the rules that apply to us, the positions we have taken with regulators, and the periodic reports we owe, to whom and by when.
  • You’ll design new tools with AI and upgrade existing processes, for example a workflow that logs and summarises inbound correspondence, or a check that compares a draft response with the positions we have already taken with that regulator.
  • You’ll build every tool within Klarna’s data and security controls from the start, because much of the material is confidential and some of it is legally privileged.
  • You’ll find out what the colleagues using your tools need, check that what you deliver works for them, and keep it running after launch.
  • You’ll work with Compliance, Risk, Legal, the market teams in the countries you cover, and the owners of our regulatory reporting data in Financial and Regulatory Reporting and Analytics. You’ll also coordinate with the colleagues covering the FCA in the UK and BaFin in Germany.

Who you are

  • You’ve worked in or close to financial services regulation, for example in a regulatory, compliance, legal or analyst position at a bank, payments firm or other regulated institution, at a supervisory authority, or at a consultancy or law firm advising them.
  • You understand how regulated firms work with their supervisors, from answering information requests to meeting reporting deadlines and keeping positions consistent across authorities, and you pick up new EU regulation quickly enough to apply it to a live request.
  • You’ve built something with AI or code that other people use, such as an automation, an internal tool, a tracker or a dashboard, and you can explain how it works and where it is likely to break.
  • You work comfortably with data and spreadsheets, and you structure information so others can find and use it.
  • You’re fluent in Swedish and English, written and spoken: English for formal correspondence with regulators across the EU, and Swedish for correspondence with FI and work with Swedish colleagues.
  • You write precisely in both languages, keep track of detail across many open items without missing a deadline, and handle confidential material with discretion.
  • You notice when a process could work better and fix it rather than work around it, you raise problems early, and you’re at ease working with senior people.

Bonus points for

  • A degree in law, economics, finance, business, data or a related field. A Swedish law degree (juristexamen) is welcome but not required.
  • Experience building with LLM APIs or agent workflows, or designing prompts and tests for AI used on confidential material, using tools such as Claude, Cursor or Google Apps Script.
  • A recognised compliance or regulatory qualification, for example from the International Compliance Association.
  • Experience rolling out a tool you built and training colleagues to use it.
  • Further EU languages, since several of the regulators you will cover correspond in their own language. German is especially useful given the team’s BaFin coverage.

Things you should know before applying

  • This position is based in Stockholm.
  • We are open to someone earlier in their career who shows clear ability, as well as someone who already runs their own workstream with limited supervision.
  • No certifications are required.
  • Working together: we value co-located teams; most teams currently meet in the office 2–3 days per week, and this varies by team and can change over time.
  • Non-obvious backgrounds are welcome. Diversity of skills, perspectives and backgrounds is how we create, innovate, and disrupt like no other.
  • Final compensation will be based on the candidate’s qualifications, skills, and experience.

Please include a CV in English. Concrete beats comprehensive — what you built, what it did, what it cost.
