QA Engineer — VoIP & Real-Time Communication (Mobile)

About Botim

Botim is a leading super app connecting millions of users across the Middle East and beyond through voice and video communication, digital payments and other everyday services.

As part of the VoIP QA team, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality and reliability of Botim’s real-time communication experience across iOS and Android.

You will work closely with our existing QA team in Georgia and colleagues based in Abu Dhabi. This is a hands-on role where you will test on real devices, investigate complex issues and contribute to improving our test automation capabilities.

The Role

We are looking for a QA Engineer with strong mobile and VoIP testing experience to join our Tbilisi engineering team.

You will be responsible for testing new features, identifying complex issues, supporting production investigations and contributing to the automation of our QA processes.

The role covers a wide range of real-time communication scenarios, including:

• 1:1 and group audio/video calls

• Official Account calls

• Screen sharing

• Bluetooth and wired audio

• CarPlay

• Network changes and interruptions

• iOS and Android mobile applications

Key Responsibilities

Mobile & VoIP Testing

• Test new VoIP features, enhancements and bug fixes across real iOS and Android devices.

• Test across different network conditions, audio routes and device configurations.

• Validate speaker, wired, Bluetooth and CarPlay audio functionality.

• Test different languages and RTL experiences, including Arabic.

• Test interruptions and background scenarios, including incoming system calls, screen locking, application termination and permission changes.

• Identify edge cases and complex issues that may impact call quality or user experience.

Regression & Release Testing

• Execute release regression testing using Zephyr as part of Botim's two-week release cycle.

• Take ownership of assigned test areas and provide QA sign-off for releases.

• Maintain and improve test cases as features and requirements evolve.

• Re-test previously identified issues and ensure bugs are properly resolved before release.

Defect Management

• Create detailed and reproducible bug reports in Jira, including:

• Clear reproduction steps

• Build and environment information

• Device details

• Logs

• Screenshots/videos

• Expected vs. actual behaviour

• Work closely with developers to investigate, prioritise and resolve issues.

• Re-verify fixes on release builds and in production.

Production & Technical Investigation

• Investigate production issues alongside developers.

• Analyse crash reports using Firebase Crashlytics.

• Review client logs and call-quality dashboards.

• Help identify the root cause of complex VoIP and mobile issues.

• Monitor and investigate issues affecting call quality and reliability.

Test Automation

• Contribute to the development and maintenance of automated testing frameworks.

• Write and maintain API tests using Python / pytest.

• Contribute to UI and audio/video automation.

• Support CI/CD testing through GitHub Actions.

• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive manual testing.

AI & Emerging Technology

• Test AI-powered features within Botim's communication experience.

• Validate AI functionality, conversation flows and user interactions.

• Use AI tools to improve testing efficiency and accelerate QA workflows.

Requirements

Must Have

• 3+ years of hands-on QA experience testing native mobile applications.

• Strong experience testing both iOS and Android on real devices.

• Experience testing VoIP, voice/video calling, real-time communication, streaming or social applications.

• Strong understanding of mobile testing challenges including:

• Audio routing

• Network changes

• Background states

• Permissions

• Device interruptions

• Call quality

• Strong test design and defect reporting skills.

• Ability to clearly explain the impact and severity of issues and advocate for appropriate prioritisation.

• Hands-on experience with test automation — you have written and maintained automated tests yourself.

• Experience with automation tools such as Appium, Playwright, Selenium, Python/pytest, JavaScript or similar.

• Experience working with Jira and a test management platform such as Zephyr, TestRail or similar.

• Strong spoken and written English.

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with frequent releases.

Nice to Have

• Experience testing AI, LLM or voice-agent features.

• Experience with prompt validation, hallucination testing and conversational flow testing.

• Experience with network simulation and media-quality testing, including:

• Packet loss

• Latency

• MOS

• Frame rate

• Experience with CI/CD, particularly GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.

• Strong understanding of Git.

• Experience reading iOS and Android logs using Xcode, Android Studio or ADB.

• Experience analysing mobile crash reports.

• Arabic language skills or experience testing RTL interfaces.

• Experience testing real-time audio/video products at scale.
