Requirements

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in a technical field and at least 5 years of experience in program management, specifically with wearable or electromechanical consumer products. Proficiency in managing contract manufacturers and a strong understanding of high-volume manufacturing processes are essential.

Full description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in program management.
  • Experience managing wearable or electromechanical consumer products quality through full NPI lifecycles (Proto/EVT through PVT, mass production ramp, and commercial launch).
  • Experience managing Contract Manufacturers (CMs) and suppliers, and experience in establishing and managing quality metrics (OOBE, field return projections, line yield, Cpk/Ppk).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or 8 years of experience managing hardware quality for complex wearable health trackers or connected devices.
  • Strong technical understanding of high-volume manufacturing processes (tooling, molding, stamping, SMT, final assembly, and functional testing).
  • Practical working knowledge of DfX principles (DFM, DFA, DFT) and how engineering design decisions impact factory yields and field reliability.
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary failure analysis (hardware, firmware, reliability, operations) under compressed launch schedules.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to summarize complex technical risks and drive alignment.
  • Ability to travel internationally to manufacturing sites during peak NPI build periods (25% travel).

About the job:

A problem isn’t truly solved until it’s solved for all. That’s why Googlers build products that help create opportunities for everyone, whether down the street or across the globe. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you’ll use your technical expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish. You’ll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You're equally comfortable explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and enforce NPI Quality Plans across development milestones (Proto, EVT, DVT, PVT, ramp), defining exit criteria, tracking line health, and assessing ramp readiness.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to enable a design for quality/manufacturability, reviewing DfX deliverables and integrating engineering DFMEAs into factory process controls and test plans.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to resolve build defects, cosmetic fallout, and component failures using structured problem-solving (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone).
  • Drive end-to-end user experience quality targets, including Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE), cosmetic acceptance criteria, and field return rate projections.
  • Provide executive communication on quality status, yield performance, defect tracking, and launch readiness.
