This is an onsite position in either State College, PA, Ft. Meade, MD, or Aurora, CO.

What You Will Do

As a DevOps Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting the development, deployment, and maintenance of cutting-edge defense systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions that enable mission success.

Your responsibilities will include:

·       Supporting the development life cycle of platform architectural design, deployment, and debugging.

·       Building and maintaining release pipelines to enable fast, secure delivery of critical software to production environments.

·       Developing and maintaining sound version control practices using Git, including branching and merging strategies.

·       Serve as a technical lead for an Agile team and actively participate in all Agile ceremonies. Participate in all team ceremonies including planning, grooming, product demonstration and team retrospectives.

·       Automating release deployments across development, test, staging, and production environments using scripting languages and automation toolkits.

·       Setting up new sites and applications via configuration management tools such as Puppet and Ansible.

·       Maintaining and upgrading documentation and tracking tools, including Confluence and Jira.

·       Analyzing service stacks and recommending improvements for performance, reliability, and scalability.

·       Collaborating with stakeholders to bridge development and operational requirements.

·       Setting up and configuring continuous integration environments using tools like Jenkins, containerization, and Kubernetes.

·       Leveraging programming languages such as Python, Ruby, Perl, and Java in development and automation tasks.

 

Qualifications You Must Have

·       Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (e.g., Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace) or Computer Science and a minimum of 5 years of related experience.

·       Experience with Git for version control and Linux environments (e.g., RHEL 6/7/8, RHCSA/RHCE, CentOS).

·       Experience with Windows system administration, system monitoring, instrumentation, resiliency and performance.

·       5+ years of experience working in an Agile development environment.

·       Experience integrating Jenkins/Bamboo, Docker, and Kubernetes for automated deployments.

·       5+ years of experience managing and monitoring AWS cloud and virtualized servers in a Platform as a Service (PaaS) environment.

·       Experience with caching technologies (Memcache, Active MQ, Redis, APC, etc.) Experience with MySQL (Clusters, Replication, and Tuning) and Elasticsearch (Kibana a plus) Knowledge of security practices, networking protocols, firewalls, PCI compliance, etc.

·       5+ years of system architecture required with a demonstrated ability to read the code and understand the coding logic to assist in troubleshooting

·       Familiarity with software development life cycle models, agile, and DevOps programming methodologies. 

·       Experience in object oriented programming and experience in at least one programming language, such as Ruby, C, C++, GO, Python, or Java.  

·       Experience acquiring in-depth understanding of large complex software systems to isolate defects, reproduce defects, assess risk, and understand varied customer deployments.  

·       Ability to successfully work with customers, developers, testing, project management, and support staff. 

·       Active and transferable U.S. government-issued TS/SCI security clearance with Polygraph is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

 

Qualifications We Prefer

·       Experience automating network infrastructure configuration using Software Defined Networking.

·       Understanding of SLA requirements and high-availability architectures, performance optimization, and monitoring techniques.

·       Experience architecting and developing best practices for software build tools (e.g., Gradle, Maven, ANT, Shell) and continuous integration tools (e.g., Jenkins, Bamboo).

·       Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Amazon Web Services, VMWare, Puppet, Chef, and Ansible.

·       Experience working cross-functionally across multiple teams.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
