JOB DESCRIPTION

MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT

The Data Scientist-Senior will support the Intelligence Data Science Team (IDST) in the SOCOM HQ Intelligence Directorate located at MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL.

The Data Scientist-Sr position involves building and shipping Python-based analytic services, creating web-based GUIs, designing automated data linking methods, and managing the full lifecycle of data processes. Additionally, responsibilities include creating machine learning applications using Python with a Streamlit frontend, conducting exploratory data analysis (EDA) on Commercially Available Information (CAI), Publicly Available Information (PAI), and other classified sources, and integrating data from vendor APIs, databases, and other sources into unified applications.

JOB DUTIES (INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO)

  • Guide the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role.
  • Develop data-driven solutions to unusually complex business challenges.
  • Utilize advanced tools and computational skills to interpret, connect, predict, and make discoveries in complex data and deliver recommendations for business and analytic decisions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and gathering techniques.
  • Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize customer experience, efficiencies, process improvements, and other business outcomes.
  • Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions.
  • Design, research, and develop highly advanced processes, which may result in new product/business opportunities for the company.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) on structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data including CAI and PAI sources.
  • Support ML model development and Python-based analytics, including entity resolution and applied statistics.
  • Assist with API data integrations, containerization workflows, and development of Streamlit-based GUIs.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Proficient in Python and Bash, including API development and data manipulation.
  • Demonstrated experience with SQL and large-scale systems such as PostgreSQL, Hive, or Trino.
  • Strong understanding of ML concepts and familiarity with Flask or FastAPI.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Clearance: Current DoW TS/SCI Clearance required.  
  • Experience: 10+ years of related experience, including academic or internship-based data science work. 
  • Education: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Data Science, or related field.
  • Certifications: None required; cloud or ML-related certifications preferred.
  • Role requirements: On-Site 5 days
  • Due to US Government Contract Requirements, only US Citizens are eligible for this role

The likely salary range for this position is $141,525 - $191,475. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
