Full description
🌍 Why this role matters
Millions of people use Spond to run their lives together. Sports teams, clubs and volunteer groups rely on us for administration, payments and communication. We have over 4 million monthly active users, we’re a leader in the sports category on the App Store, and we’re growing fast in Norway, the UK and beyond.
Growth at that scale runs on good decisions, and good decisions run on good data. Our data team is still being built, and data capability across Spond is growing quickly. Whoever takes this role will help decide how Spond works with data, from the foundations up.
🔧 What you’ll be doing
You’ll turn data into insight that changes decisions. You’ll work with data engineers and analysts, and closely with product teams and other business units, so you’ll see the impact of your work directly.
Day to day, that means:
- Building the tools people use: reports, dashboards, self-service tools and data exports that teams rely on every day, plus conversational analytics as an emerging capability.
- Deciding what we measure: defining metrics and balanced quality and performance indicators for internal and external use.
- Growing data literacy: training and capabilities that let people serve themselves and get real value from our data products.
- Setting the standard: shaping how data products get built, improving the developer experience with AI, and showing others how to follow our best practices.
- Helping product teams own their data: supporting teams as they build data products within their own domains.
- Improving the platform: contributing to tooling and the shared developer experience for insights work, and joining product teams for hands-on help when they need it.
🤝 Who you are
We’d rather hire someone who’s excited to learn than someone who ticks every box. Bring your curiosity, take ownership of your work, and enjoy figuring things out with others.
You’ll probably feel at home if you:
- Have 3+ years as a data analyst or in a similar role, with an analytical mindset and a good sense of what makes analytics succeed.
- Love turning vague questions into answers that change decisions. You ask good questions, work in a structured way with data, and think creatively and pragmatically about what users need. If we had to pick one quality, this would be it.
- Write advanced SQL on your own and have experience with modern data platforms like Databricks or Snowflake, plus tooling such as dbt.
- Are comfortable at both ends of the data chain: you can bring in and model a new source yourself, and you can also sit down with non-technical stakeholders and help them understand the data.
- Already use AI in your analytics work, and are keen to see how automation and new ways of working can make what we deliver faster, sharper and more useful.
- Communicate clearly, and have a track record of turning non-technical users’ needs and problems into data products.
- Have worked in a product organisation, in cross-functional teams that build, ship and keep improving data products.
- Have built data products people actually use for decisions, and kept improving them over time.
- Work pragmatically, take ownership, and can work independently in an ambiguous, fast-changing environment.
Our data stack is built on Databricks and dbt. We use Omni as our BI layer for dashboards and self-service reporting, and product usage data lives in Mixpanel. You don’t need to know all of these already. Experience with these tools or similar ones would be a strong bonus, as would some Python or a background in sportstech. None of these are dealbreakers.
👋 Where you’ll sit
You’ll join Spond’s Data & Insight team, a cross-functional team set up in 2025 with a data engineer, a data analyst and a head of data. The team owns the shared data platform, the analytics capabilities and the overall Spond analytics experience. Domain teams own their analytical content, while we look after the platform, governance and end-to-end experience for everyone who uses or builds analytics.
You’ll work alongside engineers, UX designers and product managers who value curiosity, craftsmanship and continuous improvement. The team operates as its own product area and works closely with several product teams and our Infrastructure team.
💙 Why you’ll love working here
- Visible impact: your work reaches millions of people who use Spond every week.
- Real ownership: meaningful responsibility early, with clear expectations and people who help you grow.
- Room to build: help define our analytics culture and try new technologies at a company with a strong engineering culture.
- Flexibility: autonomy over how you structure your day, in a hybrid setup with flexible hours and location.
- AI as a core tool: experiment with agentic tools, automate parts of your workflow, and help define what responsible AI use looks like in Data & Analytics.
- A great office: a centrally located, newly renovated office in downtown Oslo.
🎁 Perks and benefits
- Engaging and fast-paced work environment filled with passionate team players that move fast and where your opinion will make a difference.
- Flexible work environment (Monday and Friday are remote days), with a fantastic office in downtown Oslo
- Regular social events, off-sites, games and fun.
- Competitive salary and benefits plan.
