About the Network Engineer III Position:

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, optimization, and support of Avalon’s multi-region cloud network infrastructure. This position provides technical leadership for enterprise networking architecture and is accountable for ensuring the availability, security, scalability, and performance of network services across cloud environments. The Senior Network Engineer collaborates with infrastructure, security, application, and DevOps teams to develop and maintain network solutions that support business operations, regulatory requirements, and organizational growth.

This position is eligible for remote work, but quarterly travel will be required to Avalon’s corporate office located in Tampa, Florida.

Network Engineer III – Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement multi-region AWS network architectures including VPCs, subnets, security groups, NACLs, and routing policies.
  • Manage and optimize AWS networking services including Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPN, CloudFront, and Application Load Balancers.
  • Architect and deploy highly available, resilient network solutions with automated failover and disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Implement network security best practices including encryption, access control, network segmentation, and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor network performance and implement optimization strategies to reduce latency and improve throughput across regions.
  • Lead infrastructure planning and capacity forecasting for future network growth and scaling needs.
  • Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to ensure network architecture supports CI/CD pipelines and containerized workloads.
  • Document network architecture, configurations, and runbooks; conduct training and knowledge transfer sessions.
  • Troubleshoot complex network issues and implement preventative measures to minimize downtime.

Network Engineer III – Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience designing and maintaining enterprise-level networks, including 5+ years of demonstrated experience with AWS cloud networking and multi-region architecture.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • None required.
  • Deep knowledge of AWS networking services (VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, Route 53, CloudFront, ALB/NLB).
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, routing protocols, BGP, and network security.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, or equivalent).
  • Experience with network monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus, or similar).

Network Engineer III – Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration platforms (Docker, Fargate).
  • Experience with network automation and programmable networking.
  • Familiarity with security compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, HIPAA).
  • Experience with incident response and disaster recovery planning.
  • AWS Solutions Architect Professional or AWS Certified Advanced Networking - Specialty certification (or equivalent).
