Full description

An internship with our company is a great opportunity to build your skillset and explore your career interests. Our summer student internship is a 10-to-14-week program that starts in mid-May and ends in August. During your internship, you'll work on impactful projects that make a difference at our company, with our customers, and in our communities.

You'll also gain exposure to different areas of our business and have numerous opportunities for networking and coaching.

Interns may be eligible for a one-time hiring bonus to assist with housing costs depending upon proximity to our company office location.

Compensation Minimum: $25.00 Compensation Maximum: $39.00

As a Cybersecurity Intern,

Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of our business, corporate culture and structure to support your work.
  • Contribute creative ideas and strategic approaches in response to changing situations.
  • Assist in monitoring, analyzing, and responding to cybersecurity threats and security events.
  • Support vulnerability management activities including identification, assessment, and remediation efforts.
  • Research emerging cyber threats, attack techniques, and security trends to help inform defensive strategies.
  • Utilize AI-enabled tools and technologies to support threat detection, investigation, and analysis.
  • Participate in penetration testing and security assessment activities to identify potential weaknesses.
  • Conduct digital forensics and incident investigation activities under the guidance of team members.
  • Document findings, prepare reports, and communicate recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support security initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • Must be in student status at an accredited 4-year college or university during the internship, graduating August 2027 or later.
  • Must be pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD.
  • Major/program must align with internship role.
  • Pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in cybersecurity, digital forensics, incident response, and vulnerability management.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, operating systems, and cybersecurity fundamentals.
  • Experience with or coursework in cybersecurity, computer networking, systems administration, or related technical disciplines.
  • Familiarity with scripting or programming languages such as Python, PowerShell, Java, or similar languages is preferred.
  • Interest in AI technologies and their application within cybersecurity operations.
  • Knowledge of security tools, vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, or digital forensics concepts is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, initiative, and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Information

  • To ensure a strong start, all employees participate in our New Employee Orientation during their first week.  This experience is held in person at our Madison, WI Headquarters or one of our AmFam core locations to help you connect with our mission, meet key team members and build relationships that support your growth.  At times, sessions may be delivered virtually based on scheduling and availability.
