Position Overview

We are hiring an Oracle Database Administrator to own the availability, performance and security of our Oracle databases running on Exadata in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). You will run Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure (ExaDB-D) and/or Exadata Cloud@Customer, support mission-critical production workloads, and automate routine operations so the team can scale. This is a hands-on senior role: you will be the go-to expert for Exadata on OCI, shape our database standards and architecture, and act as the main technical contact with Oracle Support and Oracle's cloud operations team.

What You'll Be Doing

Exadata and OCI administration

  • Provision, configure and manage Exadata VM clusters, Oracle Homes and Container Databases (CDBs/PDBs) on ExaDB-D or Exadata Cloud@Customer through the OCI Console, CLI, APIs and dbaascli.
  • Manage Exadata-specific features: Smart Scan, Storage Indexes, Hybrid Columnar Compression (HCC), Exadata Smart Flash Cache, IORM and resource plans.
  • Scale OCPU/ECPU and storage, and plan capacity across VM clusters to balance cost and performance.
  • Work with Cloud and Network teams on VCNs, subnets, NSGs, security lists, IAM policies and compartments that support the database estate.

Patching and lifecycle

  • Plan and apply quarterly Release Updates (RUs) for Grid Infrastructure and Database, plus Exadata infrastructure maintenance windows, with minimal downtime using rolling patching and out-of-place Oracle Home moves.
  • Lead database upgrades and migrations (for example 19c to 23ai) and on-premises-to-OCI migrations using Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM), Data Pump, RMAN, GoldenGate or Data Guard.

High availability, backup and disaster recovery

  • Administer Oracle RAC, ASM and Grid Infrastructure on Exadata.
  • Configure and maintain Data Guard / Active Data Guard (including cross-region standbys) and perform switchover and failover drills.
  • Manage backups with RMAN, OCI Object Storage and/or Autonomous Recovery Service; regularly test restores against defined RPO and RTO targets.
  • Maintain and test the disaster recovery runbook, including OCI Full Stack DR where used.

Performance and monitoring

  • Tune SQL and instance performance using AWR, ASH, ADDM, SQL Monitor, execution plans and Exadata cell metrics.
  • Monitor databases with OCI Database Management, Operations Insights, Enterprise Manager and alarms; act on alerts before they affect users.

Security and compliance

  • Implement TDE with OCI Vault keys, Unified Auditing, Data Safe, Database Vault and least privilege access.
  • Support audits and controls (for example SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI DSS) with evidence and remediation.

Automation and operations

  • Automate provisioning, patching and routine tasks with Terraform (OCI Resource Manager), Ansible, Bash, Python or PL/SQL.
  • Resolve incidents and problems, own root-cause analysis, and work Oracle Support SRs to closure.
  • Keep runbooks, architecture diagrams and standards current; mentor junior DBAs and advise developers on schema and query design.

· Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation and after-hours change windows.

What You'll Bring

Essential

· 6+ years as an Oracle DBA supporting production databases, including 2+ years administering Oracle databases on OCI, ideally ExaDB-D or Base Database Service.

· Strong hands-on skills with Oracle 19c (23ai a plus), multitenant (CDB/PDB), RAC, ASM and Grid Infrastructure.

· Proven experience with Data Guard, RMAN backup and recovery, and patching/upgrade cycles.

· Solid performance tuning with AWR, ASH, execution plans and Exadata offload diagnostics.

· Working knowledge of OCI core services: IAM, compartments, VCN networking, Object Storage, Vault and Monitoring.

· Linux administration skills (Oracle Linux) and scripting in Bash and/or Python.

· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Desirable

· Oracle certifications such as Oracle Database Administration Certified Professional, OCI Architect Associate/Professional, or an Exadata Database Machine / Exadata Cloud implementation certification.

· Experience migrating large databases to OCI with ZDM, GoldenGate or cross-platform transportable tablespaces.

· Infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform and OCI Resource Manager; CI/CD for database changes (Liquibase, Flyway).

· Familiarity with Autonomous Database, Autonomous Recovery Service, Data Safe and OCI Full Stack DR.

· Exposure to multicloud setups such as Oracle Database@Azure, @AWS or @Google Cloud.

· Experience in regulated industries (finance, energy, healthcare) and with cost optimization of OCI.

Soft Skills

  • Calm, methodical troubleshooting under pressure during production incidents.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with engineers, application owners and leadership.
  • Ownership mindset: you document, automate and follow changes through to verification.
  • Collaborative approach with Cloud, Network, Security and Development teams.
