Job Title: Sr. Product Manager - Rating Engine

Location: US-GA-Atlanta (Sandy Springs)

FLSA: Exempt

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Product Manager to own and drive the strategy, roadmap, and execution of our Rating Engine — the core system that powers how we price and rate risk across our business. This is a highly strategic role: annual rate changes are a critical driver of company performance, and the rating engine sits at the intersection of actuarial pricing strategy and technology execution.

You will serve as the connective tissue between the Risk team (Actuarial Pricing), who own the business and pricing requirements, and the IT/Engineering team, who own the technical build and architecture. You will be the single point of accountability for translating complex actuarial and regulatory requirements into a clear, prioritized product roadmap — and for ensuring the engineering organization delivers against it reliably, at scale, and on time for critical annual rate change cycles.

This role requires someone who is deeply comfortable operating with ambiguity, translating technical and actuarial complexity into clear plans, and who operates as a "new-gen," AI-native product manager — someone who doesn't just write requirements and hand them off, but actively prototypes, builds, and uses AI tools and coding agents to accelerate how the team designs, validates, and ships. You will work hands-on alongside engineers, using AI to turn ideas into working prototypes, speed up iteration cycles, and help technical resources build and enhance the application faster.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap

  • Own the end-to-end product vision, strategy, and roadmap for the rating engine, aligned to enterprise pricing and business goals.
  • Partner with Risk/Actuarial leadership to understand pricing strategy, rate filing requirements, and rating plan changes, and translate these into product requirements.
  • Build and maintain a prioritized backlog that balances annual rate change deadlines, regulatory/compliance needs, technical debt, and platform scalability.
  • Define and communicate a multi-quarter and multi-year roadmap to executive stakeholders.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Act as the primary liaison between the Risk/Actuarial team (business owner) and IT/Engineering team (technical owner), ensuring both sides are aligned on scope, priority, and timeline.
  • Facilitate requirements gathering sessions with actuaries and pricing analysts to capture rating logic, rate tables, algorithms, and business rules.
  • Partner with engineering leads and architects to scope technical feasibility, sequencing, and delivery approach.
  • Manage trade-off conversations and resolve conflicts between business urgency and technical constraints.

Execution & Delivery

  • Own the product requirements process: write clear epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria for a highly technical, rules-driven system.
  • Manage the product development lifecycle from discovery through launch, including UAT and post-launch validation, particularly around high-stakes annual rate change releases.
  • Partner with QA and Risk to ensure rating accuracy, data integrity, and regulatory compliance prior to release.
  • Track and report on key product and delivery metrics (rate change cycle time, defect rates, release predictability, etc.).

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Ensure the rating engine roadmap accounts for regulatory filing deadlines, state/jurisdictional requirements, and audit needs.
  • Partner with compliance and legal stakeholders as needed on rate approval processes.
  • Maintain documentation of rating logic changes for audit and regulatory traceability.

AI-Native Product Building

  • Use AI tools and coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) to build functional prototypes, mockups, and proofs-of-concept directly — turning rating logic and business rules into something engineers and actuaries can react to in days, not sprints.
  • Account for the known limitations of AI tools, including hallucinated logic, non-deterministic output, and missed edge cases, with deliberate boundary testing and test cases derived from the business rules rather than from the AI that wrote the code.
  • Partner hands-on with engineers to accelerate iteration: use AI to help scaffold, test, and refine features, generate sample data, draft technical specs, and stress-test edge cases in rating logic before they hit a sprint.
  • Act as a force multiplier for the IT/Engineering team — identifying where AI-assisted development (code generation, test generation, documentation, refactoring support) can compress delivery timelines for rating engine enhancements.
  • Build internal tools, scripts, or lightweight automations (with or in support of engineering) that streamline how rate changes are configured, validated, or deployed.
  • Champion and help evangelize AI-enabled ways of working across the product, risk, and engineering organizations — demonstrating new workflows rather than simply advocating for them.
  • Stay current on AI/agentic development capabilities relevant to insurance pricing, rules engines, and software delivery, and continuously bring new tools and techniques into the team's practice.

Qualifications

Required

  • 7+ years of product management experience, including 3+ years in a senior/lead PM role owning a complex, technical, or platform-level product.
  • Experience managing products with significant cross-functional dependencies between business/domain experts and engineering teams.
  • Strong ability to translate complex business logic (ideally pricing, rules engines, financial systems, or similarly rule-driven domains) into clear technical requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience managing high-stakes, deadline-driven release cycles.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including with senior executives and technical teams.
  • Strong analytical skills; comfort with data to inform prioritization and measure product success.
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding tools/agents (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, or similar) to build prototypes, scripts, or working software — not just to draft text or summarize meetings.
  • Demonstrated ability to go from idea to tangible, clickable, or functional prototype quickly, using AI to compress the gap between concept and working software.
  • A builder's mindset: comfortable getting into tools, code, and data directly rather than only writing specs and waiting on engineering.
  • High willingness to experiment with new AI tools/workflows and a track record of bringing them into a team's day-to-day practice.

Preferred

  • Experience in insurance, financial services, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with actuarial pricing concepts, rating plans, rate filings, or insurance rating engines specifically.
  • Experience with rules engines, pricing/rating platforms, or configuration-driven systems (e.g., Duck Creek, Guidewire, Sapiens, EIS, or custom-built platforms).
  • Working knowledge of Agile/Scrum delivery methodologies.
  • Technical fluency (e.g., understanding of APIs, data models, SQL, basic scripting) sufficient to prototype alongside engineers and engage credibly with architecture decisions.
  • Prior experience as a software engineer, solutions engineer, analytics engineer, or in another hands-on technical role before moving into product management.
  • Experience standing up internal tools, automations, or prototypes using low-code platforms or AI-assisted development.

What Success Looks Like

  • Annual rate change cycles are delivered on time, with high accuracy and minimal production defects.
  • Risk/Actuarial and IT teams view the PM as a trusted, effective partner who reduces friction and drives clarity.
  • The rating engine roadmap is proactive rather than reactive, anticipating business and regulatory needs.
  • The product team visibly and effectively leverages AI tools to increase velocity and quality of output.
  • AI-assisted prototyping measurably compresses the time from idea to validated requirement to shipped feature.
  • Engineers view the PM as someone who speeds up their work, not someone who only generates tickets for it.
