Senior Data Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join a digital banking data platform project. You will work closely with Agile product teams across mobile banking, digital banking, corporate banking, and customer insights to design, build, and optimize scalable data solutions that support millions of banking users.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines for batch and real-time processing using Python, SQL, Spark/PySpark, and related technologies.

Build and evolve enterprise data platforms on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with BigQuery as a core data warehouse/lakehouse solution.

Develop robust data ingestion, transformation, data quality, and serving layers to support digital banking applications, customer analytics, and personalized banking experiences.

Design and implement scalable enterprise data models using Data Vault 2.0, medallion architecture, or other modern data modeling approaches.

Develop and optimize streaming pipelines to process banking transactions, mobile application events, and customer behavioral data with high throughput and low latency.

Implement data governance, lineage, security, and compliance practices to ensure data quality, integrity, and reliability in a regulated banking environment.

Optimize data pipelines for performance, cost efficiency, scalability, and operational reliability on GCP.

Apply DataOps best practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and observability.

Design, develop, and optimize RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL APIs to support integration with mobile applications, web platforms, and backend services.

Collaborate with data scientists, product teams, developers, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into reliable, production-ready data products.

Participate in technical design reviews, troubleshoot complex data issues, and mentor junior and mid-level data engineers.

Leverage AI coding assistants and AI agents to improve development productivity, code quality, and pipeline automation.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Must-have Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

At least 5 years of experience in Data Engineering or a closely related field.

Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with hands-on experience in Apache Spark/PySpark.

Proven hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), particularly BigQuery.

Solid experience building and operating large-scale data pipelines for batch and real-time/near-real-time processing.

Practical experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka, Spark Streaming, Flink, or Kafka Streams.

Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow and data transformation tools such as dbt.

Strong understanding of data warehouse/lakehouse architecture, data modeling, data quality, and pipeline optimization.

Experience designing and optimizing RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL APIs, including API integration, performance, and security.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional Agile teams.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in digital banking, core banking, fintech, or financial services data platforms.

Familiarity with banking data domains, including T24/core banking data, mobile transactions, banking products, customer behavioral data, and corporate banking workflows.

Experience with Data Vault 2.0; experience with medallion architecture or other enterprise-scale data modeling approaches is also valued.

Knowledge of data governance, data lineage, security, and regulatory compliance in banking or other regulated industries.

Experience with DataOps practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and observability.

Experience using AI coding assistants and AI agents, such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar tools, to support software development and automation.

Experience mentoring engineers and participating in technical design reviews
