Position Summary

The Business Systems and Quality Analyst defines business and functional requirements, authors effective and actionable user stories, and plans and executes the validation phase of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for systems and digital experiences used by Credit Union of Texas members and team members. Acting as a subject matter expert across front-end and back-end systems, the role partners with business stakeholders, vendors, project teams, and leadership to translate business needs into well-specified, well-tested products that align to CUTX product vision and business objectives. The role applies strong analytical, technical, and communication skills, and uses CUTX-approved AI and analytics tools to accelerate requirements analysis, test design, and defect triage while preserving human-in-the-loop accountability on all member-impacting outputs.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements Definition & User Story Development

  • Work with stakeholders across business units to understand needs and document business requirements with clarity and traceability.
  • Interpret and translate business requirements into functional specifications and current- and future-state business process diagrams.
  • Author user stories and acceptance criteria that drive product development and align deliverables to product vision and business objectives.
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and acceptance criteria reviews within an Agile/SCRUM delivery model.

Quality Assurance & Test Execution

  • Plan and execute all aspects of the validation phase of the SDLC, including creation of the full test suite (test plan, scenarios, and cases).
  • Test products, systems, and software to ensure they are defect-free and meet CUTX quality standards and end-user expectations.
  • Design and execute project test suites across front-end and back-end components, including customer-facing digital applications.
  • Use automated testing tools and frameworks where applicable to improve test coverage, efficiency, and repeatability.
  • Apply SQL skills to query, analyze, and validate data integrity across systems.

Systems Subject Matter Expertise

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on front-end and back-end systems used by CUTX, providing guidance and insights.
  • Document, troubleshoot, and resolve system errors, escalating complex issues and partnering with developers and vendors as needed.
  • Interpret business needs, member expectations, user experience trends, and technological capabilities to drive system improvements.

Product Launch & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner with vendors, project teams, and leadership to support the successful launch of new or enhanced products.
  • Support testing strategies, communication strategy preparation, and overall launch support to ensure seamless implementation.
  • Collaborate with the training team on the design and delivery of rollout strategies for new product features and enhancements.

Collaboration & Risk Management

  • Collaborate with senior analysts, developers, and project team members, seeking guidance on complex issues and sharing knowledge across the team.
  • Identify and escalate risks that impact project timelines and deliverables, and contribute to mitigation strategies.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative team environment while working independently in a fast-paced, demanding setting.

AI-Augmented Delivery & Continuous Improvement

  • Use CUTX-approved AI tools to accelerate requirements drafting, user story generation, test case generation, and defect summarization, with mandatory human review of every output before use.
  • Identify opportunities to improve SDLC quality, cycle time, and defect prevention, and recommend tooling or process changes to leadership.
  • Participate in pilots of CUTX-approved AI tools that support business systems analysis and QA, contribute feedback, and adopt approved enhancements.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, or a related field, required.
  • Certification in Software Quality Assurance (e.g., ISTQB) or Project Management (e.g., PMP) preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst, Quality Analyst, or similar role with a focus on systems and quality assurance.
  • Two (2)+ years of financial industry experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Banno / Jack Henry products or similar financial technology platforms is desirable.
  • Experience testing the Symitar Episys core banking application is a plus.
  • Agile/SCRUM experience, specifically in user story and acceptance criteria development and participating in sprint planning.
  • Prior experience using AI- or analytics-driven tools to support requirements, testing, or defect triage is preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications

AI Tier and Human-in-the-Loop Responsibility

This role operates in AI Tier 2 for its principal AI-augmented workflows (see Appendix A). The Business Systems and Quality Analyst retains accountability for any decision, communication, or member/employee-impacting action influenced by AI output, consistent with the CUTX Generative AI Usage Policy §3.4.

The Business Systems and Quality Analyst is required to:

  • Apply human-in-the-loop review on every AI-generated user story, acceptance criterion, test case, defect summary, and member-impacting artifact before it is committed, executed, or released.
  • Stop reliance on AI output and escalate immediately if the output appears inaccurate, biased, non-compliant, or outside the role's documented scope (Generative AI Usage Policy §3.5).
  • Refrain from entering member non-public personal information (NPI), confidential CUTX information, source code from restricted repositories, or material non-public information into any AI tool not explicitly approved for that data classification.
  • Complete all required AI training within thirty (30) days of hire and maintain currency on annual refreshers.

Approved AI Tools

The role is approved to use the following AI tools in performing essential functions (subject to the Generative AI Usage Policy and any tool-specific guidance issued by the AI Council):

  • CUTX-approved internal AI assistants (e.g., Sam) for general productivity and approved knowledge tasks.
  • Microsoft Copilot for office productivity (drafting, summarization, spreadsheet support).
  • CUTX-approved AI features embedded in Jira, Azure DevOps, and Confluence for user story, test case, and documentation support.
  • CUTX-approved AI-augmented testing and code-analysis tools deployed within the SDLC toolchain.

Use of AI tools outside this list requires prior approval from the Chief Information Officer and the AI Council, per the Generative AI Usage Policy §4.

Prohibited AI Use

In addition to the prohibited uses defined in the Generative AI Usage Policy §3.6, the following are specifically prohibited in this role:

  • Using AI output as the sole basis for releasing software, accepting a user story as complete, or signing off on a test phase without human review.
  • Entering member NPI, restricted source code, vendor confidential data, or material non-public information into any AI tool not explicitly approved for that data classification.
  • Using consumer AI tools to draft member-facing communications, regulatory artifacts, or audit-response materials; these must follow approved templates and review procedures.
  • Using AI to generate or modify production data, production SQL, or production configurations without documented review and standard change-management approval.

Compliance & Regulatory Responsibilities

Enterprise Compliance Obligations

The Business Systems and Quality Analyst is responsible for all enterprise compliance obligations applicable to a CUTX team member, including BSA/AML, OFAC, USA PATRIOT Act/CIP/CDD, GLBA and the Safeguards Rule, Fair Lending laws (ECOA/Reg B, Fair Housing Act), UDAAP, Information Security and Acceptable Use, and the CUTX Code of Conduct.

Role-Specific Compliance Obligations

  • CUTX Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Change Management, and Release Management policies and procedures.
  • CUTX Information Security policies, including data classification, access management, and secure handling of test data.
  • Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) and the Safeguards Rule as applied to systems handling member data, including non-production test environments.
  • Vendor management and third-party risk requirements applicable to interactions with platform vendors (e.g., Jack Henry / Banno, Symitar).
  • Records retention and audit-trail requirements for requirements documentation, test evidence, and release approvals sufficient to support internal audit and regulatory examination.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

This role is performed primarily on-site at the CUTX Corporate Office, with hybrid eligibility per CUTX workplace policy [confirm]. The work environment is office-based with few or no hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions, except that a hard hat is required during periods of on-site construction. Essential physical activities include the ability to remain stationary at a workstation for extended periods; use fingers and hands for typing, grasping, and repetitive motion; communicate clearly by phone, video, and in person with stakeholders, vendors, and team members; and use average visual acuity to prepare and inspect documents and operate computing equipment. The role involves sedentary work with occasional standing, walking, and lifting of up to 10 pounds. Mental demands include advanced reasoning (defining complex problems, interpreting technical instructions, drawing innovative conclusions across abstract and concrete variables), intermediate mathematical ability (percentages, basic algebra and geometry, statistical analysis), and advanced language ability (reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents, and presenting compelling information to leadership and stakeholders).
