Job Description Summary

Anesthesia and ventilation delivery technology: Build life-critical embedded software. Our software runs in anesthesia delivery systems and related vaporizer technologies used by clinicians every day. We are looking for an experienced embedded software engineer with strong, balanced experience in RTOS and Embedded Linux environments. The systems are distributed across multiple processors and include communication interfaces, hardware control, and FPGA-based functions.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will lead complex subsystem work, make system-level design decisions, mentor engineers, and help carry forward critical product and architecture knowledge. You need to understand how software and FPGA-based control fit together and be able to drive that architecture with FPGA and hardware engineers. FPGA logic or HDL development is not required.

The strongest candidates will want to understand the complete medical device, not only their assigned software. Over time, this person should become a trusted expert in both distributed embedded systems and the anesthesia and ventilation-delivery domain.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, integration, and verification of distributed embedded software spanning RTOS and Embedded Linux.
  • Define and review interfaces among processors, software subsystems, communications, hardware, and FPGA-based control.
  • Work with FPGA and hardware engineers to establish responsibilities, data flows, timing, diagnostics, fault behavior, and integration plans.
  • Lead work involving real-time behavior, concurrency, platform bring-up, BSPs, drivers, boot processes, inter-processor communication, and low-level debugging.
  • Make technical decisions involving performance, determinism, reliability, maintainability, cybersecurity, safety, and fault handling.
  • Lead design and code reviews, mentor engineers, and help resolve complex product and field issues.
  • Contribute to platform roadmaps, reusable software, automated testing, CI/CD, and development-tool improvements.
  • Work with systems, controls, hardware, quality, clinical, cybersecurity, and global software teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of software development experience, including significant experience with embedded systems.
  • Strong and comparable professional experience in RTOS-based embedded software and Embedded Linux.
  • Extensive C++ experience in concurrent, real-time, resource-constrained, or reliability-critical systems.
  • Experience designing and integrating distributed embedded systems involving multiple processors, communications, hardware interfaces, and FPGA-based control.
  • Ability to drive architecture and integration for an FPGA-enabled system. FPGA or HDL development experience is not required.
  • Strong system integration, platform bring-up, debugging, technical leadership, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC or a similar heterogeneous SoC that combines application processors, real-time processors, and programmable logic.
  • Knowledge of control systems, including real-time control, closed-loop systems, modeling, simulation, or control-algorithm integration.
  • Experience with FreeRTOS or another RTOS, Linux BSPs, drivers, boot processes, kernel interfaces, and ARM-based systems.
  • Experience in medical devices or another regulated, safety-critical industry.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and developing reusable embedded platforms.
  • Interest in becoming a system-level and domain expert in anesthesia and ventilation delivery.

We expect all employees to live and breathe our behaviors: to act with humility and build trust; lead with transparency; deliver with focus, and drive ownership –always with unyielding integrity.

Our total rewards are designed to unlock your ambition by giving you the boost and flexibility you need to turn your ideas into world-changing realities. Our salary and benefits are everything you’d expect from an organization with global strength and scale, and you’ll be surrounded by career opportunities in a culture that fosters care, collaboration and support.
