Senior Backend Engineer, Golang - Tax Research Platform

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to strengthen the team behind a global Tax Research Platform used by professionals to search, browse and access specialist tax content.

You will work primarily in Go on backend services supporting search, content delivery and related platform capabilities.

One of the main current initiatives is the modernisation of the search landscape, including the migration from legacy search technology towards Elasticsearch.

The team already has an established Team Lead and Product Owner. The key need is another strong senior backend engineer who can work independently, take responsibility for substantial features and help raise the technical level of the wider team.

What you will do

• Build and maintain backend services in Go

• Work on search and content-delivery services

• Contribute to the migration towards Elasticsearch

• Work with indexing, ingestion and content-processing pipelines

• Design and evolve REST APIs

• Work with microservices and distributed backend systems

• Work with event-driven architectures and messaging

• Take ownership of features from technical design through production

• Improve performance, scalability and reliability

• Contribute to testing, CI/CD, monitoring and observability

• Help modernise legacy systems and reduce technical debt

• Support less experienced engineers while remaining hands-on

• Contribute to stronger engineering standards and technical craftsmanship

What we are looking for

• Strong hands-on production experience with Go

• Proven senior-level backend engineering experience

• Ability to work independently and take ownership of substantial technical work

• Strong Elasticsearch or search-platform experience

• Experience with indexing, ingestion pipelines or search-related backend systems

• Strong REST API experience

• Experience with microservices and distributed systems

• Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging

• Strong system design skills

• Experience designing and operating scalable backend systems

• Experience with Kubernetes and Docker

• Experience with CI/CD and automated testing

• Experience with cloud platforms; the environment runs on Azure/AKS, but other cloud backgrounds are relevant

• Experience with monitoring and observability

• Experience modernising or refactoring existing systems

• Strong communication skills and fluent English

Elasticsearch is particularly important for this hire.

Candidates with strong experience in search infrastructure, indexing or ingestion pipelines are especially relevant. However, a strong Go backend engineer with closely related experience in event-driven systems, data processing or search can also be considered.

Around eight years of backend engineering experience is a useful benchmark, but it is not a strict requirement.

A candidate with approximately five or six years of experience can still be highly relevant if the experience demonstrates genuine seniority and includes substantial work with Go, Elasticsearch or search-related systems.

The team

You will join an existing international engineering team with an established Team Lead and Product Owner.

The team works with daily stand-ups and broader quarterly planning.

The main need is another senior backend engineer who can independently take responsibility for significant areas of work, support the Team Lead and help other engineers when needed.

You should be comfortable taking a feature or technical problem, defining the approach, breaking the work down and driving it through delivery rather than waiting for every task to be fully specified.

Working model

The role is based in Serbia through Talcom.

The working model is 3 days per week from a Talcom office and 2 days from home.

The role includes an initial one-week visit to the Netherlands, with occasional follow-up visits when useful for onboarding, planning or team collaboration.

Compensation

Up to approximately €3,100 net per month.
