Benefits
Full description
Datamine has championed data, analytics and AI for over 30 years. As organisations across Australia and New Zealand increasingly invest in AI and data-driven decisions, we’re seeking a junior data engineer to join our Data Engineering/Ops team. You'll help monitor, maintain, and build data environments for our clients across diverse industries, take on day-to-day client tickets and requests, and give our small Infrastructure team a second pair of hands. You'll also help make sure our internal tools support automation and efficiency, always looking for pragmatic ways to enhance and optimise. We use AI every day here and expect you will too.
At Datamine, we aim to give people power, through the ethical use of technology, to make decisions that transform their work, lives, and communities for the better. We collaborate closely with our clients to leverage insights and provide organisations with proven, repeatable success in this area. We thrive on making a difference.
This is a full-time role based in our Parnell office.
About the role
This is a blended role at the intersection of data engineering, operations, and infrastructure. You'll start close to the ground with daily checks, client tickets, and infrastructure support, and grow from there. As you build confidence, you'll take on more client-facing data engineering work, such as SQL, Python, and Datamart development. You'll also be a key point of continuity for our Infrastructure team, so Datamine has cover when it matters.
As you evolve in the role, and we better understand your strengths, Datamine will work with you to shape your future path. This role suits someone who enjoys working with a high degree of autonomy, takes ownership of outcomes, and enjoys continually improving the way they work to achieve better results.
At Datamine, we’re all individuals. You’ll find no boxes here. In fact, one of our values is “don’t just tick the box!”
What a day may look like
- Running daily checks across Datamine's Datamarts and client environments, and flagging anything that looks off
- Working through client tickets and requests, and keeping people updated on progress
- Supporting our Infrastructure team with monitoring, patching, back-ups, and routine maintenance of servers, network, and cloud resources
- Solving a diverse range of client and internal problems to keep technology running smoothly
- Using Linux and Bash on a daily basis
- Implementing, testing, and releasing code
- Contributing your opinion and expertise to a solution
- Communicating with the Client Services team on progress and any potential issues
- Pitching in at team meetings and contributing to the team's goals
- Working with your direct team and the wider Datamine team to keep learning, improving, and getting constructive feedback along the way
What you'll bring
- A university degree in a technology or data-related field, such as computer science, engineering, or information systems, or equivalent experience in a systems administration or infrastructure support role with some coding under your belt
- Programming experience, such as with SQL, Python, or R, through study or the workplace
- Hands-on use of AI tools in your study, work or own projects
- A good grounding in databases (SQL, and ideally some RDBMS exposure) and an understanding of DBMS concepts
- Exposure to Linux, a cloud platform (AWS or Azure), and infrastructure basics such as monitoring, back-ups, or networking is a bonus, not a requirement
- Practical work experience of any kind – part-time, holiday work, or personal projects. We're interested in what you've done and what you've learned from it
- A team-first mindset. You enjoy supporting others, thrive on collaboration, and love celebrating shared successes
- A growth mentality. You're curious, eager to learn, and ready to build your skills while adding value along the way

- The opportunity to learn from and work alongside experts in their field

- A place that celebrates our wins and is on the path of continual learning
- An Employee Assistance Program
- Subsidised health insurance
