Full description

Relaunch@Capgemini

Have you taken a career break of 18 months or more? Whether your break was for family, health, travel or another reason, we understand that returning to work can feel daunting. Relaunch@Capgemini is a supportive six-month programme designed to help experienced professionals rebuild their confidence, refresh their existing skills and ease their transition back into the workplace. We are not looking for perfection. We are looking for potential. You do not need to meet every requirement listed below. If you have relevant previous experience, transferable skills and a willingness to learn, we encourage you to apply. The programme is designed for experienced professionals returning after a career break of between 18 months and 10 years. It includes a tailored learning and development plan, coaching and access to a community of fellow returners.

About the job you're considering

We are looking for junior-to-mid-level User Researchers to join our Experience Design community. You will work within multidisciplinary teams to help create high-quality digital products and services. Much of our work supports HMRC and other government organisations, although you may also have opportunities to work with clients in the private sector. You will help teams understand their users, including people who may experience accessibility needs or other barriers when using a service. You will plan and undertake proportionate research, turn evidence into clear insights and help teams make informed decisions about the products and services they are developing. You will receive support to refresh your skills and become familiar with current research methods, tools and standards. The level of independence expected will reflect your previous experience and confidence as you return to the workplace.

To be considered candidates must be based in the UK and have existing permission to work in the UK. Sponsorship will not be provided. If you are successfully offered this position, you will go through a series of pre-employment checks, including: identity, nationality (single or dual) or immigration status, employment history going back 3 continuous years, and unspent criminal record check (known as Disclosure and Barring Service)

Your role

Depending on your previous experience and development needs, you will:

  • Help teams understand the value of user research and keep user needs visible throughout delivery.
  • Contribute to research planning, identifying research questions and selecting appropriate methods.
  • Help develop inclusive recruitment briefs and recruit representative participants.
  • Plan and conduct research activities such as interviews, contextual research, workshops, surveys, concept testing and usability testing.
  • Analyse qualitative and quantitative evidence to identify user needs, behaviours, barriers and opportunities.
  • Turn research findings into clear, practical insights and recommendations.
  • Present findings in an accessible and memorable way to colleagues and decision-makers.
  • Work closely with interaction designers, service designers, content designers, product managers, business analysts and developers.
  • Help teams use research evidence to inform user stories, prototypes, product decisions and service improvements.
  • Apply appropriate research ethics, consent, privacy and data-handling practices.
  • Contribute to the wider User Research and Experience Design communities by sharing learning and building relationships with other researchers.

The source profile covers research planning, inclusive participant recruitment, interviews, prototype testing, usability testing, surveys, analysis, presentation of findings and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Your skills and experience

We understand that time away from the workplace may mean you have not recently used the latest research tools or worked with current digital delivery practices. Please do not be discouraged if your experience is not completely up to date. The Relaunch programme is intended to help you refresh and develop your skills. We would love to hear from you if you have previous experience, transferable skills or a strong foundation in some of the following:

  • User research, social research, market research, customer research or another relevant research discipline.
  • Human-centred or user-centred design.
  • Planning or contributing to research activities.
  • Conducting interviews, usability testing, surveys, workshops or similar research.
  • Analysing qualitative or quantitative information.
  • Identifying user needs and explaining them clearly to others.
  • Presenting evidence, findings or recommendations to different audiences.
  • Advocating for users, including people with accessibility needs or other barriers.
  • Working collaboratively with people from different professional backgrounds.
  • Applying research ethics and handling participants’ personal information appropriately.
  • Working in an iterative, agile or similarly collaborative environment.
  • Building constructive relationships and responding positively to feedback.

The source profile identifies knowledge of human factors and user-centred design, research planning, inclusive recruitment, research ethics, GDPR, a range of qualitative and quantitative methods, analytical ability and advocacy for users as relevant experience. It would be helpful, but is not essential, if you have

  • Experience of conducting research in government, public-sector or other complex environments.
  • Familiarity with the Government Digital Service standards or similar digital service standards.
  • Experience of working with multidisciplinary digital delivery teams.
  • Experience researching internal services, operational tools, enterprise platforms or complex workflows.
  • Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive research practices.
  • Experience using digital research, analysis or collaboration tools.
  • A user research, social science, psychology, human-computer interaction or related qualification, professional certification or equivalent practical experience.

These areas reflect the desirable experience and qualifications in the source profile but should be treated as
