Akira Technologies is seeking a Senior System Administrator to support the U.S. Army Materiel Command (AMC) at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. This position is part of the core technical support team responsible for the day-to-day administration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and security of the JWICS environment.
The Senior System Administrator will provide hands-on support across server, network, security, and end-user environments, ensuring systems remain secure, operational, and compliant with DoD requirements. The ideal candidate is a technically strong administrator who can troubleshoot complex issues, support users in a secure environment, and adapt to evolving mission and technology requirements.
This is an onsite position supporting the Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD location. The role also requires active TS/SCI clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily Windows and/or Linux system administration, including account management, system configuration, patching, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Implement and maintain DoD security requirements, including Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), security patches, and configuration standards.
- Administer and troubleshoot network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and related network devices.
- Provide Tier 1/2 technical support to end users, including account resets, software support, connectivity issues, and general troubleshooting.
- Support Video Teleconferencing (VTC) systems, including setup, configuration, troubleshooting, and user assistance.
- Monitor system and security logs, investigate alerts, and support incident response, remediation, and vulnerability management activities.
- Support the secure operation and maintenance of systems within the JWICS environment, following applicable DoD and site security requirements.
- Perform system backups and support disaster recovery and continuity of operations activities, including testing and validation.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, operating system, network, and connectivity issues; escalate complex problems to senior technical personnel or vendors as appropriate.
- Maintain system and technical documentation, including configuration information, troubleshooting procedures, and maintenance records.
- Provide skilled technical support across assigned performance areas and assist with implementing new technologies, system upgrades, and mission requirements.
- Coordinate with system, network, cybersecurity, and customer support teams to maintain system availability, security, and performance.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant IT experience supporting enterprise-level systems and infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience with Windows and/or Linux system administration in a secure or DoD environment.
- Experience with network administration, troubleshooting, and enterprise infrastructure support.
- Certifications• Current IAT Level II certification at a minimum.
- Industry-standard certifications relevant to assigned duties, such as CompTIA Security+, CCNA, RHCSA, or MCSA.
- Certifications must meet applicable DoD 8570/8140 requirements for the assigned position.
- Demonstrated hands-on expertise in system and network administration, troubleshooting, security operations, and customer support.
- Experience applying STIGs and DoD security requirements to enterprise systems.
- Working knowledge of COMSEC and security practices within classified environments.
- Strong problem-solving and customer service skills with the ability to support users and resolve technical issues in a mission-focused environment.
- Must possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance.
- Must be able to work onsite at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.
Salary Range: $120,000 to $145,000
Akira’s pay range for this position considers various factors including skills, years of experience, training, licenses, certifications, alignment with market data, and internal equity in the organization. This pay range estimate is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary, which Akira believes to be done in good faith in compliance with local laws. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
