About 1X

We're building humanoid robots that work in any space humans exist with the mission to create an abundance of labor. Simple, but it's not.

To do this right, we have to solve robotics, AI, software, hardware, manufacturing and operations at the same time, at scale, in a form factor that has to be safe. If you're inspired by this, you'll thrive here. We've been at this since 2014 and we're at the point where the hard problems are behind us and the hard work is in front of us.

NEO is our flagship - a general purpose robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the real world alongside real people. We're not demoing it, we're shipping it. We're excited to meet you, if this excites you.

If you've spent your career working on problems that matter and want to see them actually reach the world - this is that moment. We're scaling, we're hiring with intention, and we need people who want to build something that will genuinely change how humans spend their time safely creating abundance for all.

About the Team

You’ll work with all of the teams that write software for the robot, from firmware to Companion to AI, and own the one schedule that turns plans into reality. You’ll coordinate closely with the hardware teams to make sure our roadmaps converge to robots that we ship.

Your Charter

The mission of this role is to own the fastest credible path from requirements to product launch. You’ll own and drive the 1X Developer Platform by building one plan from multiple teams, reconcile it with hardware timelines / dependencies, keep it honest, and pull it forward. This is on the 1X critical path for the most important projects for the company.

Key Outcomes

  • Own the integrated product development and launch schedule, connecting team milestones, hardware timelines, and company goals into a single critical path the whole company can trust
  • Define credible milestones, owners, dependencies, and dates that align with the overall product schedule, bringing clarity to complex problems
  • Manage cross-team dependencies and blockers, making handoffs explicit, surfacing risks early, and driving or escalating resolution before they reach a critical milestone
  • Maintain strong cross-functional communication, keeping teams aligned on status, priorities, schedule changes, risks, and decisions so work proceeds from a shared understanding
  • Drive the fastest credible path to launch by parallelizing work, accelerating decisions, shortening feedback loops, and removing constraints on the critical path

Key Competencies

  • Build integrated schedules from engineering reality, not optimism. You know the difference between a date and a plan
  • Earn the trust of software engineers, product managers, designers, and hardware partners so teams bring you risks early instead of hiding them
  • Make dependencies and handoffs explicit across teams that work in different tools, vocabularies, and cadences
  • Drive decisions to closure. You would rather escalate a day early than report a slip a week late
  • Communicate schedule truth in plain language to everyone from engineers to executives

Minimum Requirements

  • 5+ years in software engineering or technical program management for complex software products spanning multiple teams and/or orgs.
  • Experience taking at least one large software multi-team initiative from 0 to 1
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage an integrated schedule spanning multiple teams, including dependencies outside of your control
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, a related engineering field, or equivalent hands-on experience

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in robotics, automotive, or high-volume consumer launches
  • Familiarity with hardware product development
  • Exposure to products where software readiness gates hardware builds
  • Experience with schedule and program management tools such as Linear, MS Project, or Jira

What does a successful 1X Team Member look like

Team members at 1X who thrive here are builders. They move fast, own their work completely, and treat time like it's the one thing you can't get back - because it is. They say what they mean, finish what they start, and hold themselves to a standard before anyone has to ask. We push each other to be better, and we do it with honesty and respect.

Compensation Range

$190,000 - $230,000 + Equity

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous paid time off, company holidays, and parental leave
  • 401(k) plan with company match (100% on the first 3% of contributions, 50% on the next 2%)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) options
  • Commuter benefits (transit and parking)
  • Short-term and long-term disability, and life insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for mental health, financial, and personal support
  • Onsite snacks and catered lunches
