About the Role

We're looking for a Software Engineer (PHP) to join our Engineering team and help build and enhance IXOPAY’s enterprise payment platform.

In this role, you'll work closely with experienced engineers in a collaborative, fast-paced environment to design, develop, and maintain features that improve the performance, scalability, and usability of our products. You'll contribute to a platform that processes mission-critical payment data for global merchants.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys building robust backend systems, working with modern APIs, and continuously improving complex software in a production environment.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, test, and deploy backend features using PHP and modern frameworks.

• Build and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance services across cloud and datacenter environments.

• Work with APIs and integrations that support complex payment workflows and enterprise customers.

• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to define and deliver new features.

• Ensure application reliability, security, uptime, and performance across services.

• Contribute to the evolution of system architecture, infrastructure, and development best practices.

• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement of engineering processes.

• Stay engaged with payment industry concepts, customer needs, and platform capabilities.

What You'll Bring

Required

• Several years of experience in software development using PHP.

• Experience with PHP frameworks such as Laravel, Symfony, or Doctrine.

• Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences and translate requirements from customers into product updates

• Strong understanding of web technologies and relational databases (non-relational experience is a plus).

• Experience working with APIs and API documentation.

• Understanding of software design principles such as scalability, maintainability, and testability.

• Ability to work in a collaborative Agile development environment.

• Strong communication skills in English.

Preferred

• Experience working with distributed systems or complex backend architectures.

• Experience in payments, FinTech, or high-availability enterprise systems.

• Familiarity with cloud or hybrid infrastructure environments.

• Experience working with both relational and non-relational databases.

Location & Working Model

This role is based in Vienna. We offer a hybrid working model, allowing a mix of office and remote work.

Compensation

This role is covered by the Austrian IT collective agreement (IT-KV). The minimum monthly salary is €3,843 gross (14 times per year, based on 38.5 hours/week). The actual salary will be above this minimum and depends on your experience and qualifications, and will be discussed during the interview process.
