Benefits
Full description
Attention is the currency of entertainment. We turn it into decision intelligence.
Every search, stream, post and fan conversation is a signal of what people care about. Parrot Analytics measures and models global audience demand, helping leading studios, streaming platforms, broadcasters and investors make better decisions about what to create, acquire, value, market and fund.
We're looking for a Data Scientist to power the Data Intelligence behind our Insights and Partnerships teams. You'll tackle questions that go well beyond a SQL query: Who cares about an IP? Which audiences overlap? Why is sentiment changing? And what does it mean for a commercial decision?
From Auckland, your work can inform decisions involving some of the world's biggest franchises, talent and entertainment investments.
What you'll do• Build Python-first intelligence workflows. Source, collect, clean and analyse digital signals from APIs, social platforms, online conversations and other structured or unstructured data. Use SQL and our data warehouse where useful, but go beyond routine reporting.
- Analyse attention, demand and audiences. Investigate momentum across titles, talent, franchises and markets; develop audience profiles, behavioural segments, overlap analysis and brand affinities.
- Map audience and piracy networks. Use graph and network analysis to uncover connections between content, communities, fandoms and consumption behaviour.
- Decode the conversation. Combine social listening and quantitative sentiment with LLM/RAG-based qualitative research to understand what audiences are saying, why it matters and which evidence supports it.
- Turn findings into decisions. Partner with Insights and Partnerships colleagues to interpret results, challenge assumptions, communicate uncertainty and tell clear, commercially relevant stories with data.
- Improve the engine. Refine methodologies, automate repeatable work, experiment with AI-powered approaches and make research workflows more accurate, scalable and reproducible.
- Qualifications- Master Degree or higher in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or related fields.
- Applied data science skills-Strong Python and SQL; hands-on experience with APIs, data wrangling, statistical analysis and projects built end to end. NLP, graph analysis, ML, AWS or Redshift experience is a plus.
- Independent, critical thinking You can turn ambiguous questions into a sensible research plan, test your methods, recognise bias and distinguish meaningful signals from noise.
- AI-native habits-You already use tools such as ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor to code, research and work smarter. You look for ways AI improves work and everyday life, while checking outputs rather than trusting them blindly.
- Internet and pop-culture fluency- You're "chronically online" in the best sense: curious about Reddit, TikTok, YouTube, fandoms, gaming, film, TV, anime or sport. You don't need to know every AO3 fan fiction, but you want to understand why communities care.
- Communication and ownership. You can explain complex findings to non-technical teammates, contribute to compelling narratives and take responsibility from messy question to useful answer.
We care about what you can do and how you learn, not just your job titles. Even if you don’t tick all of the technical boxes, apply and show us what you’re about and why you’d be a great fit.
- Free onsite parking on a first come first serve basis
- Birthday leave
- You’ll join a team that values strong fundamentals, curiosity, and real-world impact.
- An opportunity to build a strong foundation in data science while working on meaningful problems at the intersection of analytics, platform-scale data, and modern AI-enabled ways of working.
Why join Parrot Analytics?Global impact, from Auckland. Work on intelligence that can shape creative, commercial and investment decisions for major entertainment players.
You'll be close to the teams using your analysis, with room to build new capabilities rather than just maintain dashboards. We value curiosity, initiative and people who use AI to expand what a small, talented team can accomplish.
