Software Engineer Java – IDE, Infrastructure and Data

Advantest is a global leader in automatic test equipment for the semiconductor industry. Our testing platforms are used to test many of the world’s most advanced semiconductor devices. We are looking for a Software Engineer Java to join our development team and build a complete development environment for a domain-specific language (DSL) used in semiconductor test engineering. The focus of this position is the development of a desktop IDE, the coordination server behind it and the data backend that supports them. The product is technical and addressed to engineers, so usability, reliability and data integrity carry equal weight. The project is young, and the architecture is still being built. This role involves working across the full stack of the environment, from the Java desktop client through to a complex relational data domain and contributing to the structural decisions that will shape it. The position is onsite only in Bangalore, India and works in close contact with our engineering team in Italy.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop a Java desktop IDE together with a dedicated UI design team
• Design and implement data transfer and coordination between the IDE, the test system and the data persistence layer
• Model and maintain a complex data domain on a relational database, including hierarchical structures, versioning and non-trivial relationships
• Contribute to the architecture of a modular and extensible development environment
• Implement features supporting editing, navigation and validation of the domain-specific language
• Analyze and resolve technical issues across the IDE, the coordination server and the data backend
• Design the data domain with an explicit understanding of the structural trade-offs involved
• Develop automated tests and contribute to platform quality and stability
• Collaborate with development teams and domain experts to translate engineering requirements into technical solutions
• Continuously improve the developer experience for the engineers using the environment

What You Will Work On: You will work on EXAVIS and help to establish and evolve the development environment that engineers use to author and maintain test definitions. The goal is to create a coherent toolchain in which IDE, coordination server and data backend behave as one reliable product.

Qualifications

Experience: 5+ years, Mid–Senior level, with proven experience on complex codebases

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical field
• Solid Java skills demonstrated on non-trivial codebases, including design patterns, concurrency and debugging of complex applications
• Experience with Java desktop UI development (e.g. using Swing, SWT, JavaFX)
• SQL and data modelling experience, preferably with PostgreSQL
• Ability to design a data domain with a clear understanding of structural trade-offs
• Experience applying AI-native approaches in software development, testing, or product development
• Experience with Git and modern software development workflows
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Good written and spoken English
• Ability to work effectively in an international and distributed development environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with IDEs, developer tooling, plugins or technical applications
• In depth experience with mainstream IDEs (Visual Studio, VS Code, Eclipse, ...) and plugin development for these platforms
• Experience working on medium to large codebases with testing and continuous integration
• Experience with client–server architectures and data synchronization
• Knowledge of domain-specific languages and related tooling
• Experience with schema evolution and data versioning strategies
• Experience in technical or industrial software environments
