Benefits
Full description
We are looking for a Senior Android Engineer to take ownership of significant features in our Android mobile app, the customer-facing app in our in-vehicle infotainment system, or both. You should be resourceful, ready to research and dive deeper into advanced Android development, and able to drive technical decisions that shape both the product and how our team builds it. You will work alongside experienced engineers on a platform where your technical judgment and contributions directly influence the direction of the app.
You will work either on-site, or remotely from Croatia as part of our Demand Engineering team, which focuses on customer-facing products. The team uses a modern Android stack: Jetpack Compose, Kotlin Coroutines and Flow, and a structured MVVM architecture. We encourage discussion and debate but place tremendous value on pragmatism and optimising for output. As a senior on the team, you will lead open discussions, drive technical decisions, and help raise the bar on engineering quality.
Who are we?
At Verne, we're building an ecosystem to progress our society through a journey of curiosity and innovation. Named in honor of Jules Verne "the man who invented the future,". We are the first European solution for autonomous journeys. We adopt an integrated approach, including vehicle design, infrastructure development, and the full digital experience.
As a growing startup, we thrive on curiosity, innovation, and bold ideas. If you’re ready to make your mark in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, this could be the role for you.
What will you do?
- Own complex features end-to-end, from research and design through implementation, testing, and release, across the Verne Android app and/or our in-vehicle app.
- Design and evolve our apps’ architecture using Jetpack Compose, Kotlin Coroutines and Flow, and MVVM, with a focus on maintainability, performance, and testability.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested Kotlin code and set the standard for code quality across the team.
- Lead code reviews and technical discussions, providing thoughtful feedback and guidance to other engineers.
- Drive improvements to the team’s engineering practices, including testing, documentation, and CI/CD.
- Stay at the forefront of Android development, evaluating new libraries, APIs, and approaches and championing their adoption where they add value.
- Mentor and support other engineers on the team, sharing knowledge and helping the team grow.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Backend, and other stakeholders to scope features and align on technical direction.
What do you need to succeed?
- Extensive professional experience in Android development with a deep focus on Kotlin.
- Proven track record of shipping production Android applications, with at least 2 apps released.
- Strong experience with Jetpack Compose and modern Android UI development.
- Deep working knowledge of Kotlin Coroutines and Flow for asynchronous and reactive programming.
- Solid experience designing and maintaining apps using MVVM or similar architectural patterns.
- Strong understanding of unit testing, code review, CI/CD, and documentation best practices.
- Experience working in a Scrum/agile environment.
- Strong communication skills and experience mentoring or guiding other engineers.
- Resourcefulness and a track record of researching and solving novel technical problems independently.
Nice to have
- Experience with iOS development (Swift, SwiftUI), or a working understanding of how features are built on iOS.
- Experience with Android Automotive OS or in-vehicle infotainment systems.
- Experience publishing apps to the Google Play Store.
- A real obsession with fluid animations and perfecting interaction details.
