What You Will Be Doing: 

The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for maintaining and improving existing databased systems as well as assisting in the design and development of new systems utilizing the latest techniques and technologies. Primary responsibilities would include database design, performance tuning, writing and understanding complex SQL, optimizing and updating existing database code, fulfilling requests and resolving incidents. The role will also require responding to database related alerts and escalations within an expected SLA time. As part of the larger data team, working with management and other teams to define strategic solutions, and address recurring problems will be necessary.

This role requires a service-oriented mentality and high sense of ownership. The Senior Database Administrator would be expected to continually look for areas of improvement in projects, products and processes to ensure efficiency, consistency, and accuracy. Self-direction and the ability to manage and allocate your time over multiple simultaneous projects are keys for success.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, create, and maintain database objects. This includes all database physical and logical primary objects such as indexes, views, procedures, etc. in on premise and cloud databases.
  • Recommend database approaches and design to architecture and application staff
  • Drive innovation and improvement through implementation of newer data technologies
  • Work with the Architecture team to establish coding standards for stored procedures, triggers, and logical and physical schema design.
  • Review and approve complex structural changes to the database
  • Optimization of existing queries and procedures as well as development of efficient, optimal SQL code.
  • Lead investigation and resolution of database incidents including blocking and deadlocks.
  • Assist in building and maintaining database monitoring infrastructure for alerting, performance collection, and operational dashboards.
  • Support database security and compliance requirements using TDE, data masking, and other encryption tools.
  • Advise on and implement data retention, tiering, and archive strategies for high-volume production databases.
  • General technical troubleshooting and consultation with quality assurance, application development, and infrastructure teams.
  • Work with several departments including Architecture, Quality Assurance, Application Development, and Infrastructure to implement and maintain database and database code

You’ve Got What It Takes If You Have:

  • 7+ years database analysis, programming or similar experience
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience as a Senior Database Developer or equivalent
  • Extensive hands-on experience in SQL 2016 and higher
  • Hands on experience with cloud-based database systems in Azure using Managed Instance, Azure SQL Hyperscale, Azure SQL DB, and VMs.Extensive experience dealing with multiple large (2+ TB) databases
  • Experience writing complex database procedures, functions and triggers
  • Understanding of execution plans, system views, and dynamic SQL
  • Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles and practices
  • Proven strong innovate and analytical ability with extensive implementation skills
  • Proven success in performance optimization for OLTP and OLAP applications
  • Experience with SQL Server HADR technologies, including Always On Availability Groups, log shipping, and backup/recovery strategies.
  • Experience with database monitoring platforms and dashboard tools such as SSMS, Grafana, PowerBI, or other third-party tools.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell for script automation, tooling, and operational workflows.
  • Experience with Git or other version-control change management processes.

Nice To Have: 

  • Experience with SSIS or other ETL tooling.
  • Experience with SSRS or other managed reporting platforms
  • Familiarity with Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
  • Experience with schema migration tools like Liquibase or Flyway
  • Familiarity with Azure Data Lake Storage, Synapse Analytics, or other cloud native platforms.
  • Experience with SOC 2, FINRA, or other regulated industry compliance requirements.

Pay Transparency: 

The compensation range for this position is $100,000-$165,000.

RegEd takes a market-based approach to pay. It is not typical for a candidate to be hired close to or at the maximum of the salary range. Your actual pay at RegEd is based on your unique background, pertinent experience, work location and qualifications. Base pay also depends on the relative experience, knowledge and skills to our internal peers in the role. In addition to competitive base pay and bonus/commission program participation, RegEd’s total compensation package also includes our comprehensive benefits package in addition to vacation, sick, volunteer time off and paid parental leave.
