Reporting to the General Manager, the Senior Engineering Manager will be the accountable Engineering leader across Fixed plant, Mobile Plant and Infrastructure. This role sets the engineering strategy, standards and maintenance and capital programmes that deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective asset performance in support of the production plan. It leads the function through the Engineering Manager - Fixed Plant and the Engineering Manager - Mobile plant, ensuring both areas work to one set of systems, standards and ways of working. It also supports the Operations Manager and site leadership team on all engineering matters.
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Promote and enforce compliance with safety, health and environmental policies, standards and regulations, and live and instill Barrick’s DNA across the function, including contractors.
- Hold the relevant legal engineering accountabilities under Zambian mining legislation, and ensure appointments and compliance are in place across both areas.
- Develop emission reduction initiatives across the Process plant, HME and LME.
- Lead, coach and hold accountable, the Engineering Manager - Fixed Plant and the Engineering Manager - Mobile Maintenance, setting clear performance expectations for both.
- Set one engineering strategy, standard and operating rhythm across fixed plant and mobile fleet, aligned with the AME regional maintenance and systems standards.
- Act as the engineering lead in the site leadership team, supporting the Operations Manager on production planning, risk and investment decisions.
- Manage the Stay in Business Capital process to ensure maximum value is created through investment
- Deliver best in class engineering and maintenance within the annual maintenance budget across fixed plant and mobile fleet.
- Improve the reliability of critical equipment to prevent major production stoppages and achieve budgeted availability and throughput.
- Drive the shift from reactive to proactive and predictive maintenance through work management, defect elimination, asset tactics and condition monitoring.
- Embed a disciplined, SAP driven planning, scheduling and reliability cadence for routine work and shutdowns.
- Use life cycle costing to guide decisions on replacement, refurbishment and component change-out.
- Plan and deliver a sustaining capital programme that supports the Life of Mine plan and the Super Pit Expansion.
- Lead engineering readiness and the safe handover of newly commissioned plant and fleet from projects into stable operations.
- Provide engineering input to studies, business cases, and capital requests.
- Integrate demand planning with Supply Chain to optimise stock levels and critical spares.
- Manage OEM and contractor performance to ensure high-quality service delivery, while pursuing cost rationalisation and quality improvement.
- Scale and build a resilient engineering and maintenance organisation to support the expansion, within approved headcount.
- Prioritise the development of Zambian personnel through on the job training, skills transfer, mentoring, apprenticeships and graduate pathways.
- Build succession for senior engineering, technical and supervisory roles, progressing national talent into these roles over the next three to five years.
- Increase gender diversity in the engineering function where possible
- Drive the use of data analytics, condition monitoring, and automation, aligned with the AME technology framework.
- Pursue continuous improvement and cost optimisation across the engineering function.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. A Post Graduate qualification in Business, Engineering Management or Project Management will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in Mining Maintenance and Engineering, with at least 8 years in Senior Engineering or Maintenance Leadership.
- Demonstrated leadership of maintenance for a large-scale process plant (concentrator) and a heavy mobile equipment fleet
- Experience in Asset management and reliability methods, such as RCM, FMEA, criticality and condition monitoring.
- SAP PM work management, planning and scheduling
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Ability to conduct analysis and write detailed reports.
- Registration with the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) and Energy Regulation Board (ERB), or eligibility to register (Essential)
