The Position on our Team:

The Assistant Project Manager supports the planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects at assigned properties, working under the direction of a Project Manager or AVP/VP of Construction. Assistant Project Managers must demonstrate the ability to work in partnership with peers in Development, Design, Tenant Coordination, Leasing, Accounting/Finance, Department Store/Anchor Tenant Leasing, Risk Management, IT, and Property Management/Operations.

In This Role, You Will:

  • Support the Project Manager in the management of preconstruction and construction activities for one or more assigned projects, typically smaller in scope or complexity than a full mall redevelopment.
  • Assist Design/Planning and Development in tracking project solutions against corporate goals related to design, budget, schedule, quality, and customer service.
  • Support development of construction budgets and schedules under the direction of the Project Manager.
  • Assist the development manager and Project Manager in preparing:
  • Development schedules
  • Site logistics / phasing plans
  • RFPs for issue to vendors
  • Gain working exposure to multiple construction delivery methodologies, i.e., lump sum, GMP, design/build, cost plus, with increasing responsibility over time.
  • Assist the Design Manager and Project Manager in constructability reviews of project documents.
  • Assist in the preparation and administration of vendor contracts through to execution.
  • Support monitoring of project construction budgets throughout the development process, flagging variances to the Project Manager.
  • Maintain document control and assist with change management for assigned projects.
  • Review and verify change order documentation for accuracy prior to Project Manager approval.
  • Assist in tracking project goals and identifying issues that may require strategy adjustments.
  • Prepare draft monthly financial and schedule progress reports for review by the Project Manager prior to presentation to the AVP/VP of Construction.
  • Coordinate with specific consultants and/or construction managers as assigned by the Project Manager.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to Macerich:

  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management is preferred. Remarkable candidates without a formal degree may be considered.
  • Supplemental education from ICSC or related industry group is a plus.
  • Continuing education in studies related to retail development and construction is anticipated.
  • Minimum of 1 year, up to 4 years' experience supporting the management of construction projects, with emphasis on retail preferred.
  • Experience with a general contractor, retail developer, or owner's representative organization is preferred.
