Mobile Engineer - Android Developer

This position is an on-site position in the Jefferson City, Missouri or Overland Park, Kansas office. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide full life cycle development of Android mobile applications using Java, Kotlin, XML, and Jetpack Compose.
• Understand coding standards and implement them within code being developed.
• Ability to troubleshoot problems and provide solutions.
• Ability to communicate with the users to determine problems or design requirements.
• Ability to work on a team to complete programming projects in a timely manner.
• Ability to document changes and follow the Systems Development Life Cycle process independently.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.
• Independently maintain and enhance production banking applications for the Android platform.
• Maintain and troubleshoot Java/XML code while developing and supporting Kotlin and Jetpack Compose features.
• Work with multi-module Gradle projects, product flavors, environment build types, release signing, versioning, and Google Play distribution.
• Support Firebase Messaging, Analytics, Crashlytics, biometric authentication, secure storage, payment integrations, document capture SDKs, and other third-party SDKs.
• Support Android phone and Wear OS applications, including Kotlin and Compose-based wearable features.
• Participate in testing, release validation, production diagnosis, incident response, and documentation of customer-impacting issues.
• Other duties assigned by the Manager of Application Development.

Qualifications

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in Android application development, and programming in an Android Studio environment.
• Knowledge of: Java, Kotlin, XML, and Jetpack Compose.
• Professional experience maintaining and releasing native Android applications used in a production environment; banking or other security-sensitive experience is preferred.
• Experience with Gradle, multi-module Android projects, product flavors, build variants, code shrinking, signing, and release troubleshooting.
• Experience with Android security concepts, biometrics, secure credential handling, certificate/security configuration, and payment or identity-verification SDKs.
• Experience supporting legacy Android code while introducing current platform capabilities.
• Experience writing or maintaining unit, integration, UI, or release-validation tests.
• Experience working with RESTful web services, JSON, and XML is desired.
• Experience in building, testing, and distributing Android and iOS applications is desired.
• Working knowledge of AI-assisted development tools: using AI coding assistants and design-to-code generation effectively with standard prompts, shared design tokens, the judgment to review, test and correct AI-generated code before it is committed.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with both the business community and the technical community.
• Strong analytical skills, self-motivation, and attention to detail.
• Good organizational and time management skills.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• BS or BA in Computer Science or related field.
