Cybersecurity Engineer

U.S. Space Force – Space Systems Command (SSC), Space Sensing (SN) DirectorateLOCATION: Los Angeles Air Force Base (LAAFB), El Segundo, CASALARY RANGE: Estimated $90,000 + annually*

CLEARANCE: Active Secret / SCI

Astrion is seeking an experienced Cybersecurity Engineer to support the Space Sensing Directorate, SSC in the protection, monitoring, and assessment of information systems and networks. This position will assist with security operations, vulnerability management, incident response, compliance activities, and cybersecurity documentation while developing practical experience in a mission-focused environment.. You will work closely with senior Cybersecurity Engineers and the Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) to integrate security into the software development lifecycle (DevSecOps), conduct application security testing, and assist in maintaining Assessment and Authorization (A&A) documentation. Your efforts will directly contribute to safeguarding valuable intelligence systems and ensuring positive mission outcomes.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, information systems, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 5+ of experience in cybersecurity, information assurance, systems administration, network security, or a related discipline.
  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts, including risk management, vulnerability management, access control, incident response, and security monitoring.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and standards such as NIST, RMF, FISMA, or applicable DoD guidance.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CompTIA Security+, CySA+, Network+, or other relevant certification.
  • Familiarity with tools such as vulnerability scanners, Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms, endpoint security tools, or ticketing systems.
  • Experience supporting RMF packages, security control assessments, POA&Ms, or authorization packages.
  • Knowledge of NIST SP 800-53, NIST SP 800-37, DoD RMF, or related cybersecurity guidance.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, Linux, networking, cloud environments, or scripting.
  • Active Secret security clearance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor security tools, systems, and networks for potential threats, vulnerabilities, and suspicious activity.
  • Assist with cybersecurity incident identification, documentation, escalation, and response activities.
  • Conduct vulnerability scans and support tracking, remediation, and reporting of findings.
  • Assist with security control assessments, system authorization activities, and compliance reviews.
  • Support Risk Management Framework (RMF), Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M), and cybersecurity documentation.
  • Review system logs, security alerts, and assessment results to identify potential risks.
  • Maintain accurate security records, reports, procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Support configuration management, access control reviews, and security patch verification.
  • Coordinate with system administrators, engineers, program managers, and government stakeholders.
  • Stay current on cybersecurity threats, tools, standards, and best practices.
  • Perform other cybersecurity and information assurance duties as assigned.
