Description

The On-orbit Support Engineer will contribute substantially to Orbion and customer success by interfacing with the satellite operations teams of our customers. Customers may require support at all mission phases from pre-launch operations to satellite decommissioning. The engineer must be an effective communicator, able to listen and understand customer issues and clearly communicate solutions based on Orbion documentation or other resources. Occasionally, complex problems may require further input from Orbion engineering teams, requiring further communication and documentation. The On-orbit Support Engineer sits in a unique position within the company, having a broad view of both our technology and our customers. The position allows for rapid learning of Orbion systems as well as an opportunity to develop relationships with our customers and an understanding of their missions.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide prelaunch support, including reviewing the commissioning plan, and answering any questions related to Orbion system operations
  • Answer customer questions regarding the operation of on-orbit systems
  • Support customers in planning and conducting burns, and managing delta-v budget over the entire mission lifecycle
  • Analyze data from the Orbion propulsion module and use that data to monitor system performance and potentially catch anomalies
  • Maintain and develop telemetry post-processing and analysis tools
  • Lead investigations into anomalous system behavior through root cause and resolution
  • Create presentations, reports, and technical memos, both for internal and external use
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must meet definition of US Person
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or directly related degree
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with minimal supervision
  • 2-5 years’ experience in a space operational environment
  • A solid understanding of applicable engineering principles, business practices, and experience working directly with on orbit systems in the aerospace industry
  • Willingness to travel on occasion (10-15%)
  • Ability to collaborate in a team setting as well as be an active individual contributor
  • Great communication skills, technical depth, breadth, and passion will enable you to work effectively with cross functional (electrical, mechanical, software, system, test) teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting the on-orbit operation of electrical propulsion systems
  • Experience in electrical engineering, developing flight software, or orbital dynamics
  • Experience with data processing tools

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing on concrete surfaces and at times, sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 40 pound loads from floor level to chest level
  • Manual dexterity to evaluate, install, and modify equipment
  • Fine motor skills required for minute adjustment
