About the team

Metro’s Operations & Passenger Delivery team is committed to keeping Melbourne moving by delivering exceptional passenger experiences through, on time, reliable, safe and efficient services  We achieve this through face-to-face interactions by our frontline teams, supported by our safety operations, operational readiness, and network performance teams. 

About the Role 

Our Analytics Team, within the Performance, Planning and Reporting department are responsible for partnering with the rest of the division to understand business objectives and needs, solving problems, and answering questions through data and analytics.  

The Data Analyst role analyses and identifies trends in data to inform decision making in the short to medium term. This role will have a strong focus on data analysis, forecasting and modeling, considering future network changes and their impact on our performance, safety, passengers and people.

More role responsibilities include:

  • Partner with stakeholders to identify business challenges and drive data-led improvement opportunities.
  • Analyse data to identify trends, root causes, risks, and performance insights.
  • Develop forecasting models and analytical solutions to predict trends and support business planning.
  • Create dashboards, reports, and visualisations that enable informed decision-making.
  • Integrate, validate, and develop documentation on how to maintain data from multiple sources to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for senior leaders and stakeholders.
  • Support business improvement initiatives through modeling, analysis, and problem-solving.
  • Enhance reporting, analytics, and automation capabilities to drive continuous improvement.

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Science, Analytics or Engineering.   
  • Work experience with SQL, R or Python, with an understanding of Snowflake or RStudio.  
  • Experience in PowerBI and data visualisations.  
  • Strong analytical skills to be able to identify trends, patterns, and insights from data.  
  • Ability to translate and communicate complex technical information to various non-technical stakeholders ensuring the information is understood.  
  • Ability to work autonomously and in an agile team where priorities shift. 
  • Previous work experience in working with diverse stakeholders to deliver analytics.    
  • Previous work experience in data analysis and data storytelling to provide relevant information to influence business decisions.
  • Operations, public transport or rail industry experience is a nice to have.
