Full description

The DevOps Engineer exists to enhance and streamline GDT’s technology infrastructure, enabling efficient and reliable operations in a dynamic global marketplace. The role is pivotal in designing, implementing, and maintaining automated deployment pipelines, and in ensuring system scalability, security, and high availability.By fostering seamless collaboration between development and operations teams, the DevOps Engineer supports the delivery of robust digital platforms that underpin GDT’s trading activities. The role drives innovation, optimises processes, and contributes to the continuous improvement of the systems that enable GDT to meet the evolving demands of its global customer base. The right person will bring deep hands-on experience with AWS and Azure, infrastructure as code, containers, and CI/CD, combined with a calm and reliable approach to supporting production systems during live auctions. The DevOps Engineer is accountable for managing the complete lifecycle of GDT’s cloud-based infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines. All accountabilities are executed in alignment with GDT’s technical strategy and architectural guidelines, and GDT’s commitment to operating as an independent, neutral, and transparent price discovery platform.• CI/CD Pipelines: Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions. Automate build, test, and deployment processes to achieve faster and more reliable software delivery, and monitor and optimise pipelines for performance and efficiency.

  • Cloud Infrastructure Management: Design, build, and manage infrastructure in AWS and Azure to ensure efficient use of resources. Implement best practice for resource provisioning and management using infrastructure as code, and monitor and optimise resources for performance and cost efficiency while maintaining high levels of scalability and security.
  • Developer Enablement: Work closely with development teams to understand application needs and implement cloud-based solutions that improve efficiency and performance. Take part in regular meetings and architectural discussions, provide infrastructure support aligned to application requirements, guide teams on deploying applications to AWS and Azure, and optimise cloud resources to meet performance and scalability needs.
  • Infrastructure & Process Automation: Identify and automate manual and repetitive tasks across the software delivery lifecycle. Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools to streamline the deployment, monitoring, and scaling of cloud-based infrastructure, ensuring consistent, repeatable, and reliable deployments that reduce manual workload.
  • Live Auction Monitoring & Support: Provide ongoing monitoring, troubleshooting, support, and maintenance for production platforms, overseeing system health and performance and proactively addressing issues to maintain high availability and reliability. Support the Trading Operations team in executing GDT auctions through live monitoring during auction execution, as well as pre- and post-auction support and reporting.
  • System Monitoring & Incident Response: Implement comprehensive monitoring and alerting systems to ensure platform stability. Respond to incidents and troubleshoot issues as they arise, mitigating potential downtime to maintain a highly available service across GDT platforms.
  • Security & Compliance: Implement security best practice across environments, ensuring compliance with industry standards and building data protection measures into the infrastructure. Collaborate with engineering teams to identify vulnerabilities and implement proactive solutions that keep the platform secure.
  • Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity: Develop and maintain disaster recovery strategies that minimise service disruption in the event of system failures. Test and refine backup and recovery processes to ensure data integrity and rapid restoration of services, and work closely with IT and operations teams to align disaster recovery plans with GDT’s overall business continuity strategy.
  • Performance & Cost Optimisation: Continuously assess infrastructure and application performance to identify optimisation opportunities, and implement solutions that improve resource utilisation, reduce latency, and maximise operational efficiency. Conduct regular cost analysis and reporting to optimise cloud spend within budgetary constraints while maintaining performance standards.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with emerging technology trends and advances in DevOps practice, and suggest and implement improvements to the DevOps process, technology stack, and coding practices to enhance productivity and quality.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Keep the CTO informed of key issues in the DevOps domain and share insights on emerging industry trends, best practices, and innovative solutions. Work with the Head of Engineering to align DevOps practice with technical strategy and organisational standards; with the Software Architect to ensure infrastructure design follows architectural guidelines and to identify and address security vulnerabilities; with Product Managers to align DevOps practice with business objectives; with Software Engineers on deployment strategy and smooth software delivery; and with Support Engineers to triage and resolve production issues. Communicate complex technical issues clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, and work with vendor teams and infrastructure providers to ensure outsourced work and infrastructure meet GDT’s standards for quality, performance, and security.
