Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Linux, PHP, databases)

Within the Digital Platform Services department, our teams specialize in areas such as cloud, operating systems, virtualization, databases, backup or storage, as well as networking and security. We also have 1st line support consultants who speak French and English, but also Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and German.

The Application Services department is responsible for areas such as software development, data engineering, testing services, CRM, ITSM and ERP platform integrations, as well as application management for customers in Scandinavia, Benelux, France, Germany, Switzerland and the UK.

Job Description

We are looking for an Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join Sopra Steria Polska on the French project. You will support operational services for the OSS environment of a major international telecom operator.

Please note that we can only offer a 5-month cooperation period to candidates who are based in Poland. The position operates within a three-shift schedule: 08:00–16:00, 09:00–17:00, and 10:00–18:00 with the project scheduled to start on November 1st, 2026.

Responsibilities:​

• System administration of Linux-based servers (Ubuntu, RHEL).
• Installation, maintenance, and updates of infrastructure-level software and services.
• Ensuring server–network communication (DNS, routing, firewalls, syslog).
• Automating processes using Ansible, Bash scripting, Python.
• Maintenance of virtualized environments (VMware).
• Handling incident resolution and supporting performance optimization.
• Participating in knowledge transfer, supervised practice, and gaining autonomy.
• Provide source code and support compilation, installation, and configuration within the new platform.
• Assist with production deployment and validate correct operation through functional testing in the new environment.

Qualifications

Must have requirements:​

• At least 6 years of experience in general in IT positions.
• Hands-on experience in Linux systems administration with strong Linux administration skills.
• Experience in PHP development and scripting.
• Knowledge of MySQL/MariaDB databases.
• Hands-on experience in DevOps.
• Knowledge of Ansible and GitLab.
• Fluent English B2/C1.
• Availability to work on a 5-month project starting in November.
• Being open to visits in our office in Katowice or Gdańsk.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to document processes and share knowledge effectively.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with distributed technical teams.

Nice to have requirements:

• French is a strong advantage depending on activities.
• Experience with network configuration: TACACS – RANCID.
• Experience with Perl.
• Experience with AI.
• Experience with Python.
• Experience with Webservices.
