Are you a recent Accounting, Finance or Business graduate looking to build your career in a leading financial services organisation? Suncorp is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Finance Analyst to join our CFO Insurance Finance team.
This role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career finance professionals looking to gain hands-on experience across financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and month-end processes while working alongside experienced finance professionals in a supportive and collaborative environment.
What you'll be doing
- Support month-end finance activities, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of financial results.
- Prepare and process accounting journals, reconciliations, and variance investigations.
- Proactively investigate and resolve data variances and reconciliation issues.
- Assist with monthly management reporting, Board reporting, and Half-Year and Full-Year external reporting activities.
- Contribute to forecasting and budgeting activities through financial analysis and insights.
- Identify and implement process improvements to simplify reporting and improve processes, contributing to transformation and continuous improvement activities.
- Partner with stakeholders across Finance & Advice to support performance reporting and business decision-making.
- Develop an understanding of key business drivers, trends, and financial performance outcomes.
What we're looking for
Essential
- Degree qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
- Up to 2 years' experience in accounting, finance, business analysis, or analytical roles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Inquisitive mindset with the ability to identify trends, investigate variances, and deliver meaningful insights.
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems and reporting tools.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while managing competing priorities and delivering accurate work within tight deadlines.
- A continuous improvement focus, with the capability to identify efficiencies and enhance reporting, processes and controls.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Interest in financial services and a desire to build a long-term career in finance.
Desirable
- Progress towards, or interest in pursuing, professional qualifications such as CA, CPA, or CFA.
- Exposure to financial services, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, or decision support activities.
- Experience with tools such as Oracle, TM1/Cognos, or Power BI.
- Knowledge of General Insurance financial reporting and/or IFRS17.
- Understanding of the financial services industry and its key business drivers.
