PlaneSense is seeking a highly analytical and business-oriented Financial Analyst to join its Finance team. This role will play a key part in the Company's Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function, supporting budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, management reporting, and strategic decision-making.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver who can interpret complex financial and operational data, develop meaningful insights, and communicate recommendations effectively to leaders across the organization. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with senior leadership on strategic initiatives while helping drive financial performance, operational efficiency, and long-term growth.
Essential Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Lead and support the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting activities.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance financial models used for business planning, profitability analysis, and strategic decision-making.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management reporting packages for senior leadership.
- Analyze financial performance against budgets, forecasts, and prior periods, and provide meaningful variance explanations.
- Develop scenario analyses and forecasting models to evaluate business opportunities, operational initiatives, and capital investments.
- Assist with long-range financial planning and support strategic business initiatives.
Business Partnership & Decision Support
- Partner with department leaders to develop budgets, monitor performance, and identify opportunities for cost optimization and revenue growth.
- Evaluate operational and financial performance metrics and provide actionable recommendations.
- Support the analysis of pricing strategies, fleet investments, capital expenditures, and other key business decisions.
- Prepare presentations and analytical materials for executive leadership meetings and strategic planning sessions.
- Conduct ad hoc financial analyses and special projects as assigned.
Reporting & Analytics
- Develop and maintain financial dashboards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and management reporting tools.
- Analyze trends in revenue, operating expenses, utilization, productivity, and other key business drivers.
- Improve reporting processes through automation, standardization, and enhanced analytical tools.
- Collaborate with Accounting to ensure consistency between management reporting and financial reporting.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Leverage financial planning and reporting systems to improve forecasting accuracy and reporting efficiency.
- Participate in system implementations, reporting enhancements, and process improvement initiatives.
- Help establish best practices for budget management, planning, forecasting, and financial analysis.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- MBA, CMA, CFA, or other relevant professional certification is a plus.
Experience
- 5-8 years of progressive experience in Financial Planning & Analysis, corporate finance, financial analysis, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and management reporting.
- Experience supporting executive-level decision-making through financial analysis and strategic recommendations.
- Experience in an asset-intensive industry such as aviation, transportation, manufacturing, or logistics is preferred.
- Experience with Oracle Fusion, Oracle EPM, Hyperion, Adaptive Planning, Anaplan, or similar planning systems is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Advanced financial modeling and analytical skills.
- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, KPI development, and strategic planning.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, scenario modeling, and data analysis.
- Proficiency with financial reporting and business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Strong business acumen and ability to translate financial data into actionable business recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to build productive relationships across all levels of the organization.
- High degree of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when handling confidential information.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
