Rate: £600 per day. Inside IR35

The role

We're looking for a senior contract engineer to work on a financial platform where correctness actually matters. You'll design, build, and run TypeScript and Node.js services on AWS serverless infrastructure. You'll work in a small, cross-functional team alongside product, operations, and customer-facing colleagues, and you'll be the person people go to when they're stuck. This is a build-and-run environment: if you build it, you own it in production.

What you'll do day to day

• Design, build, and operate services within your domain, from architecture through to delivery
• Take accountability for the SLAs of what you ship, and keep improving it
• Write and maintain useful documentation for your services
• Mentor and guide other engineers
• Explain how the system works to non-technical colleagues, without making them feel daft for asking
• Judge when "good enough for now" is the right call, and when it isn't
• Work openly with product and operations, and challenge ideas constructively

Core skills:

• Strong commercial experience with Node.js and TypeScript
• Hands-on AWS experience, including serverless (Lambda, SQS, EventBridge, API Gateway, S3, ECS)
• Strong experience with event-driven architecture
• Experience with document databases, ideally MongoDB
• A track record of leading technical delivery in a build-and-run model
• Experience mentoring other engineers
• Experience with incident management
• Experience in a regulated industry, ideally financial services or FinTech

Also important:

• Solid experience designing, building, and running high-quality workflow APIs, with a focus on testing, observability, and performance
• Comfort working with distributed systems and debugging through tracing and observability tooling
• Experience in a strongly, statically typed language
• The ability to turn business and customer problems into efficient, scalable solutions
• Curiosity about how investment and custody products work

Nice to have:

• Experience with multi-region, multi-currency or trading-related systems
• Terraform, Serverless Framework and GitHub Actions
• Some exposure to C#
