  • Guide a high-performing multidisciplinary team and collaborate with key stakeholders across the University

About the Opportunity

Universities today operate in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing environment. Within this context, Planning and Business Intelligence (PBI) is a trusted resource for UQ's senior management and broader community, providing the management information and analysis that underpin evidence-based decision-making.

PBI delivers five key functions:

  • Strategic and operational planning
  • Business intelligence
  • Federal Government reporting
  • Student load planning, admissions and program development
  • Strategic analysis, surveys and dashboards

This is a rare opportunity to influence how one of Australia's leading universities understands its performance, responds to a rapidly changing higher education landscape and makes strategic decisions about its future.

Reporting to the Provost and working closely with the Vice-Chancellor and senior leaders, you will lead the University's planning, performance, reporting, analytics and business intelligence functions. You will provide high-quality information, analysis and advice on institutional performance, higher education policy and funding, student demand and growth, resource planning, and other critical matters informing UQ's strategic direction.

Leading a high-performing, multidisciplinary team, you will work across the University to ensure leaders have the data and insights they need to plan effectively, respond to change and make well-informed decisions.

About You

We are seeking a strategic, collaborative and highly credible leader with relevant postgraduate qualifications and extensive experience in the Australian higher education sector. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of government policy, funding methodologies and reporting requirements, together with demonstrated expertise in institutional planning, performance management, student load forecasting, admissions modelling and business intelligence. You will be an accomplished analytical thinker who can interpret complex quantitative and qualitative information, identify emerging trends and translate evidence into clear, practical advice that informs university-wide strategy, resourcing and performance.

You will also be an experienced people leader who can guide and motivate a diverse multidisciplinary team, sustain a high-performing and responsive culture, and lead complex organisation-wide processes in a data-rich environment. Exceptional communication, influencing and relationship-building skills are essential, including the capacity to present complex analysis persuasively, advise senior decision-makers, negotiate strategic outcomes and represent the University effectively with government agencies, sector bodies and other key stakeholders.
