About the role

We're looking for a senior WordPress developer who treats WordPress as a serious engineering platform, not a theme-and-plugins shortcut. You'll build and scale a portfolio of high-traffic, multilingual sites that support our international events and media business. You'll care about architecture, performance, and security as much as shipping features. If you write code that other developers are glad to inherit, and you think about how each block, plugin, and API fits the bigger picture, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain custom themes, plugins, and Gutenberg blocks across a portfolio of high-traffic, multilingual WordPress sites

• Develop and maintain libraries, block collections, Composer packages and tooling that speed up delivery across teams

• Own quality and performance: refactor legacy code, optimize queries and caching, and hit Core Web Vitals targets

• Build and consume REST APIs and integrations with internal and third-party systems

• Take part in code reviews, CI/CD improvements, and engineering standards

• Work with product, marketing, SEO, and content teams on new features and site improvements

• Ensure software development best practices and timeliness of product delivery.

Requirement:

• 5+ years of proven work experience as a WordPress Developer in Object Oriented PHP (8.x, namespaces, PSR-4, Composer)

• Deep knowledge of the WP core APIs: hooks, custom post types and taxonomies, meta and custom fields (ACF Pro and native), and WP_Query

• Solid production experience building Gutenberg blocks with React, JSX, block.json, and @wordpress/scripts

• Strong modern JavaScript (ES6+), plus build tooling (webpack/Vite) and modern CSS (Sass or PostCSS; Tailwind is a plus)

• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs, including custom WP REST endpoints

• Solid grasp of WordPress security (escaping, sanitization, nonces, capabilities) and performance (object caching, query optimization)

• Comfortable with Git-based workflows, pull requests, and CI/CD pipelines

• Comfortable working in an AI-assisted workflow (e.g. Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor), with the judgment to review, verify, and take ownership of generated code

• Good written and spoken English

Nice to have

• Block themes, FSE, theme.json, and the Interactivity API

• Experience with Bedrock or similar Composer-based WordPress project structures

• Automated testing and static analysis: PHPUnit, Playwright, PHPStan, PHPCS/WPCS

• Templating engines or frameworks: Timber/Twig, Blade

• Multisite and multilingual setups (WPML, Polylang, or similar)

• Headless WordPress (WPGraphQL, Next.js)

• Accessibility (WCAG 2.2) and technical SEO

Would be beneficial 

• Test automation experience with Playwright or Cypress  

• Performance testing basics (Lighthouse, Core Web Vitals, k6 or JMeter)  

• Experience testing WordPress sites, including Multisite and high-traffic sites  

• Understanding of caching layers (Redis, Varnish, CDN) sufficient to reproduce and isolate cache-related issues  

• Ability to set up local or test environments with Docker or WP-CLI  

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and how QA fits into release processes  

• Experience testing event, ticketing, or payment flows
