Senior Software Engineer - Java / Kotlin / AI / Full Stack

Our client is a senior software engineering consultancy focused on the Java ecosystem, software craftsmanship and the practical impact of AI on modern development.

They are looking for an experienced engineer who enjoys building high-quality production systems, sharing knowledge and working with other strong developers. Fluent Dutch is a must-have for this role.

Tasks

• Design, build and improve high-quality software systems for leading clients

• Work hands-on with Java, Kotlin and the JVM ecosystem on backend, full-stack and cloud-native projects

• Help clients improve architecture, engineering practices, delivery processes and the practical use of AI in software development

• Contribute to production-ready systems with a strong focus on quality, maintainability, performance and reliability

• Collaborate with experienced developers, architects and technology experts

• Explore and apply AI-assisted and agentic engineering practices in real-world software delivery

• Share knowledge through talks, blogs, meetups, training sessions or internal sessions

• Keep developing your own craft through coaching, conferences, training and challenging technical work

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience

• Strong experience with Java or Kotlin and the JVM ecosystem

• Fluent Dutch and strong English communication skills

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering or equivalent practical experience

• A strong engineering mindset: you care about clean code, architecture, testing, delivery and maintainability

• Curiosity about AI in software engineering and a willingness to experiment with new tools and workflows

• Experience with one or more JVM frameworks such as Spring, Quarkus or similar

• Experience with CI/CD, test automation, DevOps, monitoring or automated deployments

• Experience with cloud and container technologies such as AWS, GCP, Docker or Kubernetes

• Experience with relational or NoSQL databases

• Experience with event-driven architectures such as Kafka, Redis or Vert.x is a plus

• Experience with frontend technologies such as Angular, React or Vue is a plus

• Experience with public speaking, meetups, conferences or training is a plus

• A collaborative mindset and strong communication skills

• A location near one of their offices (preferred Utrecht)
