Cloud Network Engineer

Symmetrio is recruiting a Cloud Network Engineer for our customer, a rapidly growing healthcare technology organization focused on advanced healthcare technology solutions.

This individual will design, provision, and maintain AWS network infrastructure supporting secure, scalable connectivity for cloud-native and hybrid environments. The role requires hands-on expertise with AWS networking services (VPCs, security groups, WAF, load balancers, route tables), infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or CloudFormation), and familiarity with containerized environments including Kubernetes. You'll troubleshoot network and security issues in production environments, design network architecture to support application teams, and optimize for performance and compliance.

The ideal candidate has strong hands-on AWS experience, demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts clearly, and a track record of solving architecture problems in healthcare IT or oncology technology environments. Healthcare IT industry experience is strongly preferred; oncology SaaS experience is a plus.

This is a full-time, remote position open to candidates in the United States. Target compensation is $135,000–$150,000.

Responsibilities• Design and provision AWS network infrastructure using Terraform or CloudFormation to support secure, scalable connectivity for cloud-native and hybrid environments. Ensure repeatable, version-controlled infrastructure deployments with minimal manual configuration.

• Manage and maintain AWS networking components including VPCs, subnets, route tables, security groups, Network ACLs, Transit Gateway, and load balancers. Optimize network architecture for performance, reliability, and cost.
• Architect and implement secure VPN and network connectivity across AWS and customer environments, including configuration, validation, and ongoing management of hybrid connectivity patterns.
• Troubleshoot complex network issues involving routing, NAT, VPN tunnels, latency, and performance degradation. Use packet capture (Wireshark) and network analysis tools to diagnose root causes and implement lasting solutions.
• Support infrastructure automation and orchestration in containerized environments, including Kubernetes networking, network policies, and container-to-infrastructure connectivity.
• Monitor network infrastructure proactively to identify potential issues before they impact availability, security, or performance. Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability improvements.
• Coordinate with customer IT and technical teams to design network configurations, validate connectivity, and resolve issues. Clearly communicate technical concepts and architecture decisions.
• Manage network deployments and customer onboarding, including network provisioning, firewall coordination, and end-to-end connectivity validation for new environments.
• Maintain comprehensive network documentation, architecture diagrams, and runbooks. Document infrastructure-as-code configurations, design decisions, and troubleshooting procedures to support team knowledge sharing and future maintenance.

• 3+ years of hands-on AWS networking experience, including design and deployment of VPCs, subnets, security groups, Network ACLs, Transit Gateways, and load balancers in production environments.
• Demonstrated expertise with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or CloudFormation). Must have shipped IaC to production and understand version control, state management, and repeatable deployments.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with ability to diagnose complex network issues using packet analysis tools (Wireshark) and AWS networking diagnostics. Experience troubleshooting NAT, routing, VPN connectivity, and latency issues.
• Solid foundation in network fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, and network security concepts. Understanding of IPsec VPN technologies (IKEv1/IKEv2) is helpful but not required if AWS VPN services are primary.
• Ability to think architecturally and communicate clearly. Must articulate network design decisions, explain technical concepts to non-network teams, and work collaboratively with customers and engineering teams.
• Familiarity with hybrid cloud connectivity patterns, including secure connectivity between AWS and customer on-premises environments.

Strongly Preferred:

• Experience with containerized environments and Kubernetes networking (network policies, service mesh, container-to-infrastructure connectivity).
• Experience designing and supporting AWS security services including WAF, Security Groups as policy enforcement, and compliance in regulated environments.
• Healthcare IT or other regulated-industry experience. Experience with healthcare integration technologies (HL7, FHIR) is a bonus.
• AWS certifications (AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty, Solutions Architect – Professional) or equivalent demonstrated expertise.
